Sassy: July 2006 - 41 & CA Bound

Re: Sassy: July 2006 - 41 & BB Bound

That's what I took to get my foot in the door to tend bar for about ~4 years .. FUN job, lots of great cash made & people met .. each establishment has it's own rules & guidelines & recipes so it is a great base to start from to learn the basics. :) It was a fun class, teach was cool as h3ll :D Have fun

Hmmm interesting...... oh heck - I just remembered her in DE I'll have to take 2 classes - cuz in DE you have to have a "server's card" - a photo ID to work/serve in an establishment that serves/sells liquor.....

At least DE law = no smoking...

Hey Sassy! :wavey:

Didn't make it through all 26 pages, but I thought I'd say hi and good luck with the bartending class. Did mine at Boston Bartending School. :) Fun job. Did weddings and banquets when there was an open bar and made some good cash for one night. I'm sure you'll do fine. Have a great Friday! :)

Re: Sassy: July 2006 - 41 & BB Bound

You can be the bartender AND the bouncer! ;)

Just make sure they give you 2 checks on payday! :p

Re: Sassy: July 2006 - 41 & BB Bound

The last few days I've taken a break from lifting & stuck w/ cardio because my shoulders are really bothering me. The massage on Thurs did nothing so I hit the chiro this afternoon --- lol she pushed the scapula back in on both sides of my back this time and did 20 min electro stim on the shoulders. I get to do the ice thing (or bagged ockra or some frozen crap I bought cheap) - 20 min on / 20 min off / repeat. Will see tomorrow about scheduling a massage or may wait until Mon nite because the girl who beats on my the best isn't working tomorrow.

Right now its just annoying. Can't get comfortable lying down or sitting up. Will keep it to just cardio for the next few days & play it by ear. How annoying.

When I think about it, I think the rotator issue has been there since forever - I remember having an agonizing burn sensation on my right shoulder when I used that Rotator cuff machine at the Gold's Gym I trained in circa 1992. So chance are Ive always had some sort of a microtear or something in there. Talking to my chiro about it, she said I could get an MRI, but even if they find something, they either leave it to heal or opt for surgery, and the surgery doesn't always fix things.

Its certainly not been crippling (ref: 3 competitions and ongoing lifting since 1992). But w/ the lifting I've been doign lately it has become an issue. A few weeks ago I completley forgot to a warm up to start out my back day and it seems my whole right lat / delt engaged to compensate for the pain in my shoulder and aggravated it all to the point of causing the scapula to be pushed out. So I got that adjusted, did a massage around it to help accommodate the adjustment and for 2 weeks that hav e included several PRs, I've had no problems as long as I do the rotator warm up. This past week, however, I went nuts w/ a couple different PRs, the worst of them being:
- behind the neck military press -- trying to get that stupid bar off the rack w/ a shitty spotter is what did it -- the angle is so awkward, and then add weight to it and you have a recipe for disaster.
- 4 x 45 lb smith shrugs. My back can pull the weight up, my shoudlers can't support the weight. I can still feel my shoulders like they fell out of the sockets 4 days later.

So the result is that the right side has the repeated aggravation in addition to the aggravation that is also on the left side from the balanced amount of work both sides had to do. So the right scap popped out again and the left side was slightly out.

So basically this is all the result of probably a couple times not warming up the rotator on the right from an existing issue and then left just under the strain of the recent increases in weight.

So I'm just staying off most of the upper body stuff for a few days and sit w/ bags of frozen collard greens on my shoulders :)

Re: Sassy: July 2006 - 41 & BB Bound

^^ Might be worth getting the MRI just to see if it shows anything.....if nothing else it'd at least tell you what you DO have - if it shows up on the MRI.......however, if you don't have ins. right now - it may be cost prohibitive - mine for my knee was $1400..... :worried:

Re: Sassy: July 2006 - 41 & BB Bound

I dont do behind the neck MP b/c it bothers me as well. Last time I did them it made em hurt so bad I couldnt excercise my sholuders for 2 1/2 weeks.

Obviously there will be a change in my routine at this point. :)

Jens - I'm gonna hold off on the MRI right now -- I've worked around it for at least 15 yrs, no reason to make it more important now than before. It hurts. If its there, they either say there's something there & do surgery, or don't. For the moment its fine.

Could also be just God's way of saying JUST DO CARDIO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

fyi: behiind the neck military and/or lat pulls are VERBOTTEN!!! the kinetic chain so masterfully 'designed' by 150k years of upright work has never included either of those movements in its bag of tricks.

If you werent meant to do a 'move' in functional life, you shouldnt do it in the gym.

That's fine Ghede - I haven't done behind the neck lat pulls in decades. It was suggested so I gave it a shot for something different. Mind you my elbows never went below parallel -- it was mostly pulling the bar off the frame that was the problem. Its been in use for about 3 weeks.

Re: Sassy: July 2006 - 41 & BB Bound

Sassy69 said:
I guess to Ghede's point, why? I've never really found them to be all that useful. For me it was on my list of workout stuff so I tried them. It is a very awkward position and don't really see the value of them except to be able to do the move. If you are going to do the pull down action, then I'd rather suggest do pull-ups / assisted pull-ups instead of have to jack your neck forward to avoid getting whacked or do DB presses instead of a bar press.
Honestly, I have found them very useful, and not ackward at all for me.. at all ... no 'jacking' of the neck for me. I think they have helped my reach my goals & shape my shoulders the way they are now , esp, the definite line I have down the front of my delts. I am referring to BTN BB Press, I don't do lat pulldowns to the back, rarely if ever .. total personal preference, and agree to disagree, since I have responded favorably to these, plus I love them ... now, time to feed. :)

I actually got 8 submitted last nite w/ a decent all encompassing cover letter. I was happy. AND I got to bed by 1-ish am and woke up at 7-ish. AMAZING! No cardio this morning tho. And now waiting for breakfast to digest and pack meals for all day. Be interesting to see what the bartending class says about my packed meals.... I know we all get funny looks about the cooler full of broccoli, but eventually people leave us alone about it. New crowd, new bunch of people to educate I guess....

If I still have them, that's the series I have as well. There's somethign to be said for finding someone who is very good at posing tho -- it is an art form and if you can get the basics and then make it your own, you have acheived half the battle of "confidence on stage".

-- Diet - LOL - same stuff.

-- Training:

Been holding off on all upper body stuff because I wanted to give my rotators & back some time off after the chiro pushed stuff around on Saturday. Also I'm sittnig in this bartending class for 8 hrs / day - my ass hurts & i'm probably slouching some from these fantastic folding chairs.

Tonite I scheduled a visit to my fav LMT girl to beat the bejebus out of my back w/ some deep tissue work. She worked out a whole bunch more little spasm knots in my back & shoulders. But when she hit my glutes - holy GAWD. Didn't think I trained legs THAT much the day before. It felt good in that masochistic way that deep tissue feels good, but when I got home and sat for a bit, I felt like I'd done a 1000 lb ATF squat. Jeez.

Anyway - between talking w/ some old friends going thru some stuff and studying all the different brands of whiskeys for a quiz on Wed, I got to bed at 3 am. Literally shaking from lack of sleep.

7 June 2006

Diet - same

Training - not tonite -- Ass still sore from the massage and I'm just loopy from no sleep and another 8 hrs of trying to stay focused as we learn to mix up "Highballs" and "half & half drinks". (I had no idea that you put pepper on the rim of a Bloody Mary ....)

And still have to study some more tonite when (if) I wake up after the nap I'm going to take in a few minutes...

Anyway -- gotta hit the books :)

Thank you, Sassy - & Badger.

Good luck on your Booze test.........that just sounds WRONG! lol

Hi Sassy!
Hope you're doing good and ready to fix the best Martinis ever!
There is a joke my dad says all the time...
Martinis are like a womans breasts...one is not enough and three are too many.
Hope your shoulder is good and your bartending school is going great.

LOLyor dad is a smart man it sounds like... !

One day left - pretty much just the final exam. We did the "bar test" today - make 14 diff drinks in 7 minutes. I ran over a little & put grenadine instead of cranberry juice in 2 of them -- no idea why -- just sort of had a moment of complete blank -- my mind said "reach for somethign red" so I did. He told us originally that it was a practice test. So we did it. Then he tells us it was actually the real thing. FUCKER! Oh well - he said we alll did good for having been in the program all of 4 days. Then he says "now imagine doing that for 8 hrs - that might be your job..." That put it in perspective...

Anyway - just need to master 40 of the 80 recipes we've gotten - so that's what I'm all about tonite. Then I guess he even said he'd have some leads for jobs tomorrow. That might be interesting... Not sure how I'm goiing to approach that part of the result of this -- I want to move into my parents' condo next month & get my place on the market here. But a few extra bucks & some experience doesn't hurt either!

Still taking the rest of the week off from training - want a couple more days off my shoulders & also catch up on my sleep.

Re: Sassy: July 2006 - 41 & BB Bound

There is a drink here for beer/tequlla lovers....you place an shot of tequila still in the shot inside a glass (glass empty and upside down) and flip it over then fill the glass with a really cold beer and everytime you drink the shot tiltsinside nad lets some tequila pour out, like submarine and whoooooooooaaa...you don't need a chaser...

Good Luck on your test Sassy! Hey, just to let you know, I did the 21's on bicep day and whewww!!!!! I really like doing them and will continue to see what type of results I get. I threw out those dang heavy 30lb DB curls for them. That shit was too heavy ayway and I was really straining to get all the reps. I was ready to give in and reduce the weight back down to 25 lbs about the same time you brought up doing the 21's. Thanks Girl!!

Yea I was thinking about that.... I laughed because he was telling us about one lady who had showed up for class but woudlnt' go in -- sat out in front for like an hour and then left. Later she called up & said she didn't go in because she was too old. She was 42. I look at him and go, "Uh I turn 41 next month...."

I do think I'm a bit old for a shift like you are describing.... But then, I guess whatever it takes. We continue to amaze ourselves at what teh ol' body can do. The only difference w/ age is that most everything requires a good stretching session before & after, but we have the maturity to make better decisions about what we choose to challenge our bodies with, and we can better afford more health care if we need it....

Re: Sassy: July 2006 - 41 & BB Bound

:)

I feel a certain age, but I have to do a little more to maintain that feeling, however I can afford the maintenance now & I'm smart enough to not get involved in teh stuff I can't afford to maintain :)

This will be somethign to the effect of:
- carb deplete starting today - Wed
- carb load Thurs - Fri --- light carb load - not crazy carb load
- water deplete Mon - Fri
- Also upping cardio, cutting back on training (mostly because my shoulders won't allow much) and cutting total cals down some.

2 scoops BI MP + 1 tbsp heavy cream

Meal 3: 6 pm

Oh that's real simple. 2 ingredients:

1) 41 next month
2) no job for 4 months

Well done on passing the test and 95.5% - WTG. Cool idea too. Maybe if I quit being an accountant and became a bartender I'd actually lose the desire to drink :worried:

I enjoy relaxing w/ friends & a rum & Diet Coke, but I'm missing the sunset over the ocean view to really enjoy it. Otherwise I haven't had a desire to drink in several months. Cuts into my diet.... (Reality is that it takes me 2 days to recover...)

You are living the life girl! I'd say I'm jealous but it makes me so happy to hear you being so happy - I'm not :) (If that made any sense...)

I actually made some hyuge strides toward getting myself organized to get my whole "move across the country" thing going. With the help of a good friend I got motivated & addressed a few outstanding items that need to be done to get my house "sale ready". Among them:

- fixed my garage door opener

- pulled down my xmas lights (from 2 yrs ago... ) AND the white duct tape holdign them to the frames of my front & back doors. Tomorrow I need to wash the dirt & junk off & touch up the paint where the tape tore off paint or left the sticky stuff on the wood.

- fixed my toilet

- working on a backed up sink as we speak

- wrote out a list of stuff to be done over the next week.

Conceivably I might be able to get the house almost 100% ready for market by the end of this week & work w/ my realtor to get the final stuff done next week. How exciting is that?! Then I can use the last week of June to scope out some work near the parents' condo, and actually move down there the middle of July.

Anyway -- for me these are huge items to have completed, and the rest is not all that bad - just needs to be done.

Now, about that job in CA.... (next on the list...)

Oh yea I did make it to the gym tonite and doing a simulated "peak week" to prep for the big trip to sit in the audience at the Jr. Nats!

Diet: -- same

Training: experimented w/ some ab work since my shouders are fukt. Otherwise:
- 35 min stepper - slow, sweaty, ass-burning setting :)

Cali WHoo hoooo That will definitely be a change of pace for ya!! What kind of job? Hillarious below too about how you can sleep in.... :)

Re: Sassy: July 2006 - 41 & BB Bound

Ooooh!! Califor-NI-A!! Things are looking good!!

Re: Sassy: July 2006 - 41 & BB Bound

:) I have certain things I've just let go around my house the last few months - stuff would break and I simply didnt' have time to deal w/ it when I was working literally 100 hrs /week. THen I got laid off. I dont' do well when I dont' have a tight, stimulating, active schedule. But I've also been laid off for up to 6 months 4 x since 1999. It sucks the life out of you trying to get things taken care of. Its a very muckerfuthing slow process that makes it real easy to feel like no one else on the planet gives a shit and sometimes I even stopped. Sometimes I've relied on competition prep to keep my sanity. Sometimes I've had to stop competition prep because I just can't stay focused on anything. And all the time you are just sitting there burning thru your savings and getting older. Ask me again how easy it is to sleep in.

Anyway - enough of that -- I work in software product management & marketing. That's why I want to move to CA - tech heaven! Water! Mountains! Interesting people! NOT the Deep South! No Hurricanes! (ok so there's earthquakes..) I've done S. Florida. Not a tech area. Not into big cities. Spent 20 yrs living a 6 foot snow drift. No interest in living in the Mid West. AZ is too freekin' dry. TX -eh its an option but doenst' do much for me. What makes sense? CA! No guarantees, but I think the odds are in my favor & I just need a new adventure where I think the people will be more likely to be like me than here.

Anyway -- that's my plan.
