Ok... no dead lifting for a couple weeks, lol.... Cleans better not phunk with my wrist again...cuz that sucked too...but using chalk should help monumentally though I'm hoping next week!

Your push press, bench, and squat are going up....really, what's not to like about that?? I would keep going with them until they stall out.....if you want to continue the DL, I'd keep it every other week, maybe with a rep scheme like CS listed above...I'd suggest not deadlifting for 2 weeks and stopping the GMs and doing a mini deload like that, if you're like me, which I suspect you are, you'll pull a PR in 2 weeks........OR, you can bag it all together, and so long as you clean, olympic squat, and row, your DL shouldn't plummet, then train it in a 3 week intensity block.

Might also consider doing rack pulls every other week. Much easier on the lower back.

That's not an option in my gym... no adjustable safties around... ect... i could try to balance it on a "box" (aka aeorbic steps, lol) but that could prove to be dangerous :rainbow:

Eh, my back is fine usually... I blame the 3 shitty nights of sleep on a crappy hotel bed for the recent lower back issues righ tnow... it should be fine in a few days... Sometimes my back is bulletproof...but when my spine is out of align...,it must pull on the muscles differently to make it such a pain in the ass again.

yes hotel beds suck ass.....did that last night.....had to workout in the hotel gym, which involved quite a bit improvisation (like doing power cleans with the bench bar LOL)

still you aren't letting anything bring you down!! great work.....i think i need to work harder!

btw, did you ever get those straps in?

Thanks man! lol... try some 5x5 training then adapt it as you figure it out along the way that's what I've done with the help of BiggT, CS, and some other great bros here... I didn't truely understand the principals behind it until I tried it.

Straps are about 5 or so weeks out :) They've been ordered... can't wait to get them... i've realized how "springy" (crappy) mine are.. they don't hold enough weight for my lack of grip strenght, lol.

talk about it.....man, my hands can't grip shit. there's a threshold in my wrist where if i squeeze too hard, it starts to get all numb and shit.....need to have that surgery or whatever

yeah dude, i'm really all about getting in the groove with the program this time. especially after not really following the 5x5 out in principal last time....fkn ADD always gets in the way....lol
i just got out of 6 really good weeks of isolation/accessory work, so i'm primed up and looking forward to really understanding what these lifts can do properly. of course reading yours and everyone elses logs sure helps in itself.....like, i.e. important point of consistency so as to track your progress accurately and know HOW to adapt......see, i listen. :)

A.M. weigh in P.P.P.H. : 214.5 lbs

Still eating quality (for the most part) often... and in great amounts.
I don't care if the scale moves much as long as my weights keep going up, i'm happy... but I know if my body comp. leans out i'd be happier too, lol... kinda what i'm hoping for...but we will see, Weigh is up overall... gaining slowly, which is good i think i've leveled off my fat gain for now.

Back is feelin' it from the Deads still.

tonight is heavy triple squat, 5x8 bench, and heavy triple row... and my misc. gheyity day :rainbow: to do whatever i want for bi's tri's, ect... I think my blasting of them could have helped my bench :verygood:

5x8 bench topped out at 170x8 last time.... i've PR'd finally with 205x3 ... I don't want to push the 8's too much to not be able to PR a 210...

My ambitious self was contemplating 185 x 8 just so i could throw on 25's plates too, lol... but i know that's no good... ego checked.

175x8 for my top set 5x8 plan tonight ... just to keep it progressive but not overly ambitious?

are you doing a MWF split? so are you giving your back a break from the deads then?

It didn't. training your bench hard and progressively has helped it, along with slapping on some bodyweight.

I agree on the 175x8. Why chance missing reps? You'll have 185x8 in 2 weeks without any doubts, no need to rush.

Thanks, i'm trying, lol. Na, no MWF ("traditionally" today, my Day 3 would be a normal Friday workout)... no, no break from deads. My 3 day has gone full circle with stuff coming up ...trips out of state ect... some weeks I get extra days... i just keep it going instead of taking a full week off and resetting... i keep plugging away at it.

I'm probably a week or 2 behind if you wanted to figure it out from pushing workouts, ect.... Still makin' progress.

I ate a sub a lil' over an hour ago... it was cawk diesel...

3 whole eggs... not sure how much steak, but it was bulging at the seam, cheese, peppers, a little mayo... the guy goes *in greek accent* something like "This is a lotta meat!!" I go "yup I gotta train in a few hours" he goes "ohhh you go burn it off" ...me "yup" lol :evil:

It was soo good!! :)

A little heavy fueling for today's 2 hour mayhem session :chomp:

220.0lbs at the gym

bar for 8, 100x5, 140x5, 160x2, 195x5, 240x4 (belted..lower back fawked)... hurt like a bitch... layed down for a bit... back felt "100%" at the time then did 1 more rep. ... layed down again... exhausted now on top of it hurting to even bend down to get a drink at the water fountain.
thought i devised a little plan to attack my PR...
315x1 walk out... probably should have done more maybe... walk out felt fine, i dipped a bit just to feel the weight...lol... not ready to squat that yet.
270x1 pr (I completed one... i did 2 ... 1/2 reps ... doesn't count)

Close Grip Bench Press
Bar x 10
100x8
120x8
140x8 (hard :( )
155x8 (felt like my top set)
175x0 ... didn't bother attempting in an empty gym with no spot

Sounds like your lower back is just "tightening up" a bit. It seems to happen alot to everyone and can really fuck with your workout. Nothin' more shitty than to know you can, and want to do the weigh but the lower back is so tight that you can't......:worried: It might help you to try this. If it's so bad that you can't keep going or you can't push yourself the way you want just stop and go lay on the bench backwards and put your feet up on the bar. Stay there for 5 minutes or so. Then, spend another 5 minutes stretching the hell out of your back. Sometimes it will just go away. Seems to work for me about 70% of the time. I can send you some more "stretching info" like before if you want??? :p lol...

I appreciated the advice... putting my feet up like that would put me in excruitiating pain :worried:
I layed down for 5+ minutes before i belted to try that weight then i had to keep doing that... and I strech throughout my routine too :rolleyes:

It's being a bastard, still... pain in the ass... if it's not good in the next few days i'm taking time off. I want to be lifting for a very long time and i'd rather not put myself in the damn hospital.

No, please no nasty streches, lol.

Tight doesn't even begin to explain how wound up it is, lol... my chiro hasn't been able to crack my L's for a few months because it's so damn tight.

still hurts this morning.

I'll figure something out... even if I have to move to Canada for the health insurance :p

Bro you need to take a week off. How long has it been since you took an entire week off - no cardio, no lifting, no curls.........

I think every 12 weeks you should take a full week off. Then come back and do a week of high reps and then back on the real deal. When my current cycle ends I am taking 1 week off for sure as my lower back is getting sick of itself.

define "week" ... 5 day work week or 7 full days not doing anything remotely related to working out?

I'm deffinetly taking my 2 days off here (this is my "weekend" after day 3) and gauge my back and see what i'm going to do if it's not loose yet, i'm not going to keep hammering away and risk injury...it's my back... I do NOT want to be fucked and out of commision for a long time.

I liked my little dumbell workout :) ... and I used to struggle with 75's for around 7 I found in my journal (I repped 85's for 6...exhausted) :evil: Flat BB Bench has a Sweet Carry over :D

Who knows wtf I'll decide at this point, I don't. We will see how it pans out... hopefully injury free... looking into Health Insurance soon hopefully.

Looks like you have a second "see a frickin' doctor already" opinion (to go along with mine).

It also appears that, unless that was just an off day or the back issue was affecting you more than you thought (see above), you might be stalled (sarge: "no shit, CS"). You could deload and move into an intensity block like T mentioned where you push your lifts, including the deadlift, for a few weeks.

[soapbox]But first you need to do something definitive about this back thing. Chiros, deep tissue massage, sleeping on a decent bed, eating 7000 calories (although not a bad idea :chomp:) and the like are NOT doing anything for the underlying problem (whatever that may be). Don't make me get KB in here to lecture you about this matter.[/soapbox]

Off day from being such a late session, yes. Affected from Deadlifts, yes... affected by pain in lumbar, yes... It was affecting me enough last night to make me lay down on an aeorbic stepper ( :rainbow: ) for about 5-8 minutes while the pain went away. No more pushing through that... i'm going to get it checked out... it's getting ridiculous.

the answer is no my friend. sometimes my back doesn't hurt at all...but the slightest movement can knock it out of whack. do ever get groing pains or any kind of shooting pain in the legs? that's consistant with a herniated disk...which i have

MMMMmmm Sounds Yummy Bunny :D I think i'm ordering out tonight ... i'm going to have to hit the stationary bike or something just to burn some cals (otherwise I'd be a fat bastard, lol.. just bought more 34 jeans too, i'm not upgrading to 36" damnit...unless my glutes or quads need more room)... i'd jump rope but don't want to risk "tweaking" my back any more until i get it checked out, ect...

So the plan is an off week with some low-impact cardio? Sounds like a good one to me.

You've certainly earned a deload over these past 9 training weeks (even if it lasted a bit longer than 9 calendar weeks ;)) . Perhaps a poundage comparison post is in order. :)

dude. sarge. man, take a break. yes, deloading might be a good idea.....but i like the 7 day low cardio idea better......trust me, i did this the last two 6 week blocks i did and it makes a world of difference.....

and heat your muscles....you'll be amazed what your back feels like after sleeping on a heated blanket for just one night.....

sounds like you just might need some poon too. :p

I agree, a deload is in order....even a total week away from weights might not be bad.....and be careful with that Ms. DVD, not to be judgmental, but she sounds like she'll cost you a trip to the clinic and a co-pay for some Zythromax.

Yeah the comparision was disappointing on the big lifts.

I'm really surprized with the Push Presses...that's a big increase overhead.

Whole week off from weights should do wonders, hopefully. I'd like to think there's alot more in me... just really need a break this type of training kicks your ass no matter what.

Plugging my numbers back into the spread was a moral boost to see my 1 rep max jump :)

Exactly. Aside from deads, that's very good progress and shouldn't be disappointing at all. The way to think about this sort of training, the way I've seen it described by guys like Pendlay and Rippetoe, is this: 20 pounds on a lift (5 pounds x 4 weeks after you ramp to your PRs) for 8 weeks of work doesn't seem like much, but if you're able to do something like that five times a year, it's 100 pounds.

The overhead poundage really stood out to me, too, as did rows. As for squats and bench, like you said, you essentially relearned the lifts with better form and are handling more weight than you did before.

As for resetting (assuming everything turns out well with the back), that's something you just have to play around with. You can do a 3-, 4-, or 5-week ramp to your PRs depending on how you're feeling after the week off.

you should definitely benefit from a deload or a week off. let your body soak up nutrients for a little while......from looking at the beginning of your log, your squat went up 35lbs, rows 20lbs, presses freaking 45lbs!!

looks like you might've stalled on deads and bench. quit pushing through soreness and shit bro! lol did you start off with CGBP's? you need a whole body refresh. you haven't done that since beginning of august right?

hehe, I didn't "stall" on deads.. i just threw a number in there.. I didn't deadlift consistanly cuz I can (used to..) just go in a pull big numbers... and it'd put me out of CNS commision pulling that much weight reletively to my other lifts.

That bench number is from wide grip... elbows in line with the barbell... now i'm close gripping tucking my elbows into my lats.

I'm very surprized with my OHP too... crazy, I suppose that's because I hadn't ever really train OHP in any kind of way... so it shot up easily.

Cardio workout brought to you by 1 lb steak, huge pile of mash potoates and cheesecake from the Cheesecake factory last night :RADAR AND some of my buddies food, lol... they're always in awe. Gotta slow that down this week though... a bit while no heavy lifting is going on. (edit, and 2 beers ...then one more later)

Cardio: 10 minutes bike, 10 minutes tread mill (2.8-3.2 walk... random 9.0 run..bout 60 seconds), 5 minutes arch trainer

Felt damn good. Quick and sweaty... I love endorphins :evil:

I can't lie in my log... I did do 2 wussy ass sets of DB bench after my cardio sunday, lol... very random and 2 mintues before they closed up shop.

ugh... not sure if i'm going in to do cardio or not yet, if i'm still antzy in a few I will... but I have to "JUST SAY NO" to lifting or doing random shit in there :rolleyes:

my back still hurts.

Will have to remap a new training regimine without most of the core lifts that I need :( (no squat, dead, bent over barbell row {supported t-bar replacement})
I remember reading somewhere that 1 legged leg sled pressing was much easier on the back... may have to look into that as my only "core" lower movement for now.
A new log will probably be upcoming as well...

WTF?!?!?!?!? Further explanation, please.

If you have to wait, your plan to pull a Tweakle by using variants of the lifts (supported rows as you already mentioned and maybe sumo deads and safety squats) that don't exacerbate the injury seems like the only way to go.
