I've been in the same boat as you lately. Not sure what has caused it (this time), but we're both permanent close-grip benchers. Also, give decline close(er) grip a shot; I've found it causes the least pain out of any pressing movement. Congrats on your PR-a-thon and keep up the good work.

Yeah the close gripping and tucking my elbows for the past 8 weeks... I"ve had zero rotator pain... except once real quick when doing dips for the first time at more than a few reps (BW).

Nice Jobs on the PR fest as everyone says....

I also bench close grip style. I put my index on the first rings on the bar. Everyone tells me when they are spotting me, WIDER, and i just look at them I do feel my chest worked more wider tho, but thats a cosmetic unconditioned thing.

You def have a 315 Quality Squat in you. You just need a good spot to reasure your sissy ass you got it. =] Jk

lol... yeah, Close grippin'... i love it :evil: My chest has filled out more all over... i used to have a bunch of meat on the outside... it's getting to be like slabs of steak finally...more even, and it's not like i'm benching more weight than I used to... Grip change is the only difference (well actually..BB too...used to be a DB jockey).

:lmao: STFU! I know... I Know... I intimidate the weights when I need to :evil: ... slow and steady... 315 will be nice when I get there :D

Eh, pretty good... I've been more achy before... not bad at all... after deads is when I feel like a Dead man, lol.

My right bicep feels a little tweaked actually, it's fine though...just little stuff.

My spinal erectors.. surprizingly... feel brand NEW (after going heaviest I've tried with GoodMornings)... i love them, I think they're my favorite new addition to my arsenal of muscle groups that can take abuse now :chomp:

W8_D2Thurs - Light Squat, Push Press, Deadlift OR Power Clean and Clean Pulls (leaning towards OLY, I don't really care about pushing my dead right now... getting my bench and squat up to par is Priority Numero Uno :) )

W8_D3Sat - Heavy Squat Triple PR, Bench 5x8 Routine, Row Triple PR, and Misc Gheighetty exercises :p

ha, yeah.. :)

Well... yeah, I am a bit... and I'm going to be diving head first into the books again that I really need to focus on, so I'm not sure what that will mean for my training but we will see... I'll probably have to take some time off to figure out how my time I need to allocate for proper studies (course work, studying, ect)... and then i'll fill back in training where I can.

I'm such an ALL or NOTHING person, it's not even funny :rolleyes: ... I'm constantly working on balance ... so I need to cut out training, ect... add in school... and then add in training whenever I can..because that's what keeps me sane anyway... I go nuts when I don't train for 5+ days :insane:

Gotta do what I gotta do... :coffee: I like updating my workouts at the very least, ect... i'll be off and on i'm sure as I am most of the time.

stacking the press downs huh?!?! good job!!! the fun starts when you start adding free weights to the stack and you press down so hard the pin falls out and you end up going flying.....yeah...that's happened to me before lol

Yeah... i gotta either order some or take a drive to Sports Authority some weekend...it's too damn far, lol.

The grips on the "Dip Station" friggin' rotate too :rolleyes: I despise the dipping set up at my gym...

Has anyone come up with a dipping set up / ideers to dip using other equipment at the gym.... or a home set up?

Just order some online, man.....I don't know how the hell you've been pulling 400++ deadlifts without it, lol, I just assumed you used it before I read the last post....you'll probably be over 5 with a little chalk........

lol...shipping will be more than the damn chalk (another reason I've put that off :rolleyes: )

I use straps :) ... my grip isn't that good.

Would I have to use straps AND chalk .. or is chalk THAT good?

...and if I do just pony up and order online and spend shipping money isntead of gas money (lol) any reccomendations? or chalk is chalk is chalk?

If you chalk up, I'd bag the straps....If you hook grip or go over/under, you shouldn't use straps anyway.....if you go double over w/ no hook grip, straps are okay as chalk won't work miracles......as far as what to get, just get the cheapest shit you can find....chalk is chalk.

Na, I tried hook... can't do it, I have small hands reletively to my frame...same for my feet (at least I think so... my Pops is within' an inch...same height I think as me... size 12 foot... i wear 10-11's for example). I'll give it a whirl again and try to jam my thumb around and under the bar/fingers, lol.

May even take a picture to see if i'm attempting it correctly.

How long does a certain amount (2 oz?) of chalk last usually? I don't want to end up getting too little...

Depends how often you use it. Once you've tried it, you'll probably wonder how you pressed, let alone pulled, without it.

Just get a big-arse box and forget about having to buy more for the next few years.

Far as chalk goes, I got a box of 10 blocks for $9.95 at academy. Haven't even used up 1/2 a block yet, and its been over a month since I bought it. Some good lookin' legs man!

I like the balls from climbing shops, you can roll them around in the plam of your hand and dont make a mess on the gym floor. But whatever you get, chalk is totally indispensible ,. you'll like it

YES!!! Perfect!! Exactly what I was looking for!! Less the mess in my gym the less cleaning up after training I have to do, lol.

Awesome bro! Thanks! And better yet... an EMS (Eastern Mountain Sports - hiking, climbing, outdoorsy store) at the mall near by has the ball style chalk... picking that stuff up for 4-5 bucks soon!

Any way to "recharge" the cotton balls with loose chalk? or just buy a new one when it runs "dry?"

Legs are coming along bro - funny how a "powerlifting" routine add's so much damn ripped muscle. Calfs are a weird little muscle - everyones are shapped so differently. Glad your making progress and backing it up w/ pics.

I use chalk on my entire body - not just for lifting, I just like to be chalky.

That's what adding bodyweight (eating) and Squating ATF 3 times a week can do :)

If you're prissy gym has a powerlifting section or sometin' with light weight bumper plates I'd reccomend those for practicing ;)

Went to the mall and picked up my Rock climbing chalk ball (LAST ONE THERE!..close call, i woulda been pissed at myself for not calling ahead, lol) and loose chalk to throw in a ziplock baggie :evil:

Scheduled training day tomorrow but tomorrow is the traveling day :rolleyes: and plans to meet up for dinner, ect... probably getting bumped again... but at least I know where I can workout down there now :coffee:

Just put a big dab of chalk on your nose and act very irratic. It may not help your lifting, but if it's aura you want this will be a great catalyst!

Also - if you break a mirror at the gym they are supposed to give you a year for free. So I have been told.

haha... na.

my hands were sweaty from doing sets of triples (power cleans)...

on the clean pull part half way up when you swing your hands around a bit... the bar with 135+ lbs on it went flying and dropped right in front on the mirror... would have busted it if it had a little gust of wind under it. It was loud as hell, lol... i just went about my business though :)

Thanks... i tried, it was good to visit with family that don't live near me... the funeral sucked... but it was a celebration of life... it was as good as a funeral could be... Great old stories told, ect...

I have designated one of the 2 side pockets of my gym bag for the chalk...the chalk ball is in a ziplock in there and i just reach in and fondel the ball real quick with each hand... and i'm good to go, not messy at all.. except if I clap my hands together for a good showing :lmao:

Dude, I've said it before: go to a doctor, who'll probably put in an order for radiology work of some sort, rather than (or at least in addition to) a chiro. Paying $10 or 15 per visit to your chiro doesn't seem like a very good deal if you're buying ineffectual treatment over an interminate period of time. Spend some money now so this doesn't take a bigger chunk out of your wallet and/or lifting career later.

Why can't I pull anymore? :worried: Is my body burnt out?... 9 weeks in... even though I haven't been "pushing" pulling lifts... or am I just a gaping vag now :( lol

After set 2 on deads my lower back was SHOT... i felt it starting to get angry during squats... and I had to belt up for top 3 sets of Deadlifts... gat dang... that last set was a screamer too... took way too much effort than I think it shoudl have taken....chalk, straps and all...

Bodyweights not the problem either... i weighed in at a whopping 218-220 lbs at the gym, on the "medical like" scale (same style at in a Medical Doctor office...metal slider.. no clue wtf it's called) ... wasn't staying on too long to find that perfect balance, lol...hence the range I give :)

At 9 weeks, it's possible that you're starting to get into overreaching, but with the way your other lifts are going up you're not there yet.

I disagree with the pulling comment. You've been pushing rows pretty hard, and, as I recently found out when I started pushing them more, they take a lot out of you. Other possible culprits: recent back issues, addition of GMs, infrequency of deadlifting (not sure how likely this is since you've still been doing them every other week).

Anyway, nice PR (but WTF were you thinking with a 10-pound jump on an overhead lift ;)). As for deads, switching to triples could be a decent option, and the reduction in volume that would bring might allow you to keep pushing the rest of the lifts.

So I should go much easier with my deads, huh... maybe aim for a top set of <= 320 lbs or so (with triples)? and then add a few lbs every week (or other) from there?
I remember tweaking them awhile back to fit in Power cleans... i'm going to cut them out for a few weeks and just dead (and lighter if need be but still get the workload in).

I'm not sure you'd need to reduce both the weight and the number of reps. In other words, just taking the weight you were planning to do 5 reps with and doing 3 instead, then adding weight from there would be a reramp anyway. Maybe plug your 5x5 ramp into a 5x3 ramp and continue from there, deadlifting and adding weight each week (assuming your high relative deadlift doesn't bury you as it did with 5x5).

This might be a good time to put in a call to Coach T, since I'm sure he knows a ton about stalled but disproportionately high deadlifts.

This is some good advice.

A disproportionately high deadlift really can wreak havoc on your body during a training cycle, I am the exact same way.....I don't think doing them every other week hurt you, if you did them weekly, I would bet money you'd be stalled by week 3 with your numbers.

Your push press, bench, and squat are going up....really, what's not to like about that?? I would keep going with them until they stall out.....if you want to continue the DL, I'd keep it every other week, maybe with a rep scheme like CS listed above...I'd suggest not deadlifting for 2 weeks and stopping the GMs and doing a mini deload like that, if you're like me, which I suspect you are, you'll pull a PR in 2 weeks........OR, you can bag it all together, and so long as you clean, olympic squat, and row, your DL shouldn't plummet, then train it in a 3 week intensity block.
