To summarize what musclemom posted for those who don't like to read:

Those people who make too little to pay federal income tax, do pay
-PAY ROLL
- State income tax
- Federal social security
- Federal Medicare tax
- Property Tax
- Sales tax
- State licensing and registration fees
- etc
So the talking point that "half the people don't pay taxes", is bullshit.
And while Republicans want to whine about poor people, democrats are trying to find ways to improve the opportunities for the less fortunate, so they will have sufficient income to be taxable at the federal level. Win win.

And about half the people not paying federal income tax are Republicans who are going to vote for Romney, because, I guess they enjoy the disrespect.

Now, think about how the percentage mentioned above is related to the vast amount of wealth that has shifted to the very few super wealthy in this country. Think.
Money shifts to the hands of the super rich, and more and more people fall into poverty and below the taxable level. Totally predictable. Which works in republicans favor, because then they complain about the "freeloaders", and fuck them even more.

Lower taxes for the rich, and take away programs to help regular people. The inevitable result of republican economics should becoming clear to you by now.

Almost every tax you mentioned there gets paid back to people who are below a certain income level, via credits when (IF) they file their taxes.

Indeed, we need to inflate the cost of employment in the private sector to the cost of employment in the public sector...from roughly $23.00 an hour to over $40.00 an hour; That's how you create wealth. It's actually 51% pay no federal taxes. And 50% are on some sort of guberment assistance (playoffs for votes) NOT including SS or Medicare.

Wrong on so many levels. The 47% doesn't reflect who pays payroll taxes. 30 of those 47% DO have jobs and do payroll taxes. They just make so little they get all their income tax back. They are not sitting at home expecting government to do anything for them.


The focus should not be on whether they pay taxes, but why they make so little that they don't pay taxes. Fix one, you fix the other.

Romney is conceding that 47% needlessly. Many of the ones actually working don't want handouts.

Huh? What world do you live in? My son is a full time civilian contractor and considers himself well paid, he makes $16.00/hr. (BTW, NOT working in the field he went to college for). What makes it "well paying" is he averages 20 hrs. of overtime every pay cycle. If he has a month or two without OT he starts running into problems. At least he has benefits, thank god.

Now my stepdaughter, the job she just got most recently, which is full time, her starting salary was $8.50/hr. (increased to $8.64 after six months, wooo hooo). She gets no benefits of any sort including no paid time off and there is no such thing as an opportunity for O/T. If it wasn't for Obama's healthcare she wouldn't have health insurance and I couldn't GET her on state medical assistance even when she was unemployed, the $170 a month she was collecting in unemployment made her overqualified.

you see how easy it is to use his comments against him? Obama isn't even trying and he is gonna win in a landslide. I don't think Obama has run a great campaign at all. but Romney is making this too easy.. thats why oddsmakers have Obama as almost a 5 to 1 favorite to win.

Things Romney (and a few members here) either forgot or were ignorant of in the first place:

1) Many of the 47% who dont pay federal income taxes are senior citizens who have retired. Methinks Romney wants their votes.

2) The Geography of Government Benefits - Interactive Map - NYTimes.com Click on "Income Support" and "Medicaid." Seems like the GOP is dogging it's own constituency?
