Raw Diet

I am a 23 yr old female...and i work my ass of in the gym...however i have never been thin....i am ready to stop dieting so just recently i started eating raw...,,if anyone knows anything about the raw diet ..positive or negative, i would love some feedback...thanks  Before i was high protein(chicken fish, green vegies only, oatmeal and sweet potatoes, and protein shakes....can't leave out the damn spray butter )

I'm curious as to what is the protein source "raw"? I can't say I know anything about it. Is this "macrobiotic"? Is this what Madonna does? Whatever diet you follow, the important thing is that diet is the number one thing that will make a difference in fat loss. I've trained literally for 20 yrs but until I pulled the diet & training together for a BB competition I never really made serious progress in that department.

To be honest, the raw diet doesnt fit well with a fitness lifestyle. Its really low in protien and the protiens it includes are all incomplete protiens... like a lot of other fad diets you see some quick weight loss from water and muscle loss and it eventually levels off people move on to the next fad.

Sassy: In the raw diet you eat only organic, unprocessed, whole plant based foods. Almost all of which are supposed to be uncooked. Its based around fruits, vegtables, nuts, seaweeds, purified water (not tap), young coconut milk, and freshly made fruit and vegetable juices. Any of those foods that need preparing arent supposed to reach a temperature over 116 degrees.

Not to offend anyone, but its just the newest fad... Atkins, South Beach, Sugar Busters, Hollywood Diet, Scarsdale, Cabbage Soup... you name it.

There's a diet call sugar busters?

Uh ok.

Vixana,

How did you do and how long did you stay on what you are describing as "high protein" and when you did that what was the approximate break down of fat: protein: carbs?

I'm all for large quantities veggies, raw cooked - whatever, but like most extreme diets they generally work for short periods of time because you've radically changed your diet. Like all of us we want RESULTS well, yesterday and eventually after beating your head against the wall you realize that it's lifestyle change over a period on time (suck I know but long term it's good).

Why don't you post up what you eat, how much and when and how and when you train, I'm sure you'll find some good direction here.

That was really my question -- where's the beef essentially. Unless you can afford sushi every day. In my mind, unless you are a very well informed vegetarian, you NEED protein in your diet. "High protein" doesn't have to be ridiculously high protein, it just means a reasonable amount to promote growth. Otherwise you fall into the vegan category and if you don't really pay attention to getting sufficient protein from non-meat sources, you are screwing yourself. If not now, in the near future. For some people, it is actually good to run that for a while more as detox than as a life diet. But then go back to a balanced diet afterwards.

to answer your questions....i was following a fat to muscle program....Dardin i think was the originator....
meals in order
1 protein shake(grow low carb) and half a piece of fruit
2 protein shake
3 3 ouces white meat dry with 2 slices whole grain bread
4 protein shake
5 4-5 ounces white meat 2 cups green veggies
6 protein shake

then i also followed a precomp diet
egg whites/oats/half piece of fruit
egg white/oats
egg white/oats/green
chicken/green
chicken or turkey-both of these diets worked to a certain extent...i weight trained 3 days a week with 35 min of cardio, then on my off days i ran 3 to 4 miles....i had no energy ...i believed i overtrained.....i haven't worked out for 3 months ....but in doing my busting ass routines and having a very clean diet i always had a thick look,,,,,i started researching the raw diet there are some male bodybuilders who are raw, and they look big....th women look very thin and thats what i want to achieve
it also says that they get enough proteins from the raw greens? but i dont know if its true or not....it seems to help alot of people with health problems as well.....the websites are www.rawschool.comand thegardendiet.comjust two of them :)

Without sitting down and actually figuring out calories, I would say that your previous diet wasnt even enough to support you.
You didnt overtrain, you underrecovered.
You probably experianced some initial success and then saw it even off and stop. What happened was you shocked your body, lost (most likely) minimal fat, mostly water and probably muscle tissue. At that point the low calories signaled the "starvation" response and your body started to hold onto fat and/or create fat out of anything it could get its hands on.

All you need, and I mean ALL YOU NEED is a well thought out, rounded diet. Until you get to the point that bodyfat is so low that traditional dieting wont work, you should just stick to a regular diet.
Enough protien, complex carbs, beneficial fats.
If you dont have enough calories to fuel your body it is self defeating.
If you go for fad diets, youll see temporary results and then end up looking for the next fad.
If you do extreme diets, youll lose your will power and quit.

Forget any diet that the creator names after themself. Look into John Parrillo, his methods of dieting are scientifically sound and reflect the way a person really eats, and he has turned out not only top bodybuilders and athletes, but everyday people.
And its not called "The Parrillo Diet" :D
I hope that gives you a start...
