Racewalking vs Running

Hi I'm new here and I was hoping someone could help settle a bet

I've heard that speed walking can be more effective at burning fat than running for the same distances, but I cant believe that its that much better

so what would burn more fat: racewalking 8km, or running 10km?
running can be anything from slow jogging to flat out sprinting whichever is most effective (if someone could theoretically sprint 10k)

now keep in mind this is just about which burns more fat, not carbs or calories

any help would be appreciated, esspecially if you could post a link to any resources or documentation regarding this

BTW is burning fat the same thing as burning calories or are they 2 different sources of energy in your body?

TIA

You're gonna get a variety of answers on this one. There are theories that say one can get into a fat burning "zone" after so many minutes and intensity of cardiovascualr activity. Some theories suggest burning fat is best done in the AM. Others suggest that too much muscle will be burned if done on an empty stomach. And then, some others claim that there is no such thing as a fat burning zone - that only calories burned in relation to how much your daily caloric intake matters.

I've noticed the best results just by lowering my caloric intake and doing cardio only as a tool to burn calories. So basically I do it in the afternoon or evening. If I have to do it in the morning, I make sure to get a meal in beforehand to spare any muscle.

not to get too off topic, but DAMN. i googled "racewalking", and those people are friggin' FAST. World record for the 20KM walk is 78minutes and 59 seconds, an average of 6.32 mins/mile... walking!
