Question: Bagels

I am on a cutting diet, but I was wondering about bagels. I want to have ONE in the morning, its something I really enjoy :
One plain bagel for me is 42 carbs 9 grams of protein and no sat fat. The rest of my meals will still keep my carb intake under 80 carbs. Should I, or Shouldnt I?
Keep up the good work guys.

Well, if you're going to have carbs, then the morning is the time to have them.

I do my workouts (50 min of weights one day, then 50 min of cardio[running] next day - Sunday off) at 5:30 am, since its the only time I have free. I enjoy high GI carbs on weight training days, usually about 200 cals worth, about 1/2 hour before my workout - this morning I had three home made sugar cookies!!! That way I have high blood sugar for my workout.

Remember - it comes down to calories in - energy expended = deficit, to create a weight loss.

people tend to freak out about bagels because of high carb content, but I eat 2 every morning with peanut butter and jelly AND I'm on a cutting cycle. You should have no problem eating one bagel every AM -at night its a no-no.

The rest of my meals will still keep my carb intake under 80 carbs.

Is this 80 per meal or 80 per day?
If its 80 per meal, your diet has too many carbs. If you have 80 per day, then the carbs in the morning is not the best place for the carbs, but post workout where you would probably have 70-100g simple carbs + fast absorbing proteins.
you could up the carbs to 100-150g a day. If you want lower, then cut the carbs out completely.
So have a WHOLE WHEAT bagel in the morning.
Along with a banana, and 8 eggwhites.

THen post workout with the usual carbs.

I say eat the damn bagel in the am when your glycogen stores are low. If that's what you want to do then fuck what everyone else says and do it. It's not like it's going to negate all of your hard work or anything. So long as you're in a caloric deficit and getting plenty of protein and eating roughly 6-8 meals a day you're fine. Also, be sure to have a post workout high GI carb drink followed by some protein (preferably something that enters the blood stream to get to your muscles quickly like whey). If you want to keep your carbs low but don't want to do a CKD (80 g/day is too for that anyway) then up your carbs to about 120g/day or more. I think you'll find it'll make an incredibly huge difference in how much energy you have throughout the day. Personally, I like about 3 servings of oatmeal in the am (about 60g of carbs) as I find it fills me up and keeps me feeling full for a while and it gives me steady energy throughout the day. I prefer to eat mostly fibrous sources of carbs like oatmeal and veggies as they fill me up the longest and tend to have loads of nutritional benefits. But that's just me.
Your diet should be something that you're happy with and can live on for a while without feeling like you're missing out on too much. It should also keep you feeling good throughout the day (at least the majority of it). I think you'll find that this way you'll lose the fat you want to but keep more muscle. That's my opinion.

You can make 1 bagel lose a little carb count by hollowing it out (pulliing out the loose fluff) and filing it with scrambled eggs, tuna salad, etc.

If you eat isocaloric, you can easily work a bagel into breakfast.

sure you can have a bagel... on keto or ckd... it will
knock you out of ketosis though... if you don't eat any
other carbs it should be easy to get back in....

Go for the whole grain bagel bro..New York has the best and freshest variety, remember that the processed frozen has alot more sugar and sat. fat...

Good Luck with your goals...
