Question about preacher curls ???

KidMan

New member
I do my preacher curls with dummbbels each hand alone (not at the same time 2 hands).
1-At what point during the rep should I stop and go back.
2-What is the angle my elbow and arm positon should be in?
3-Are preacher curls for shaping your bi's, Are they the same as Concentration curls despite the different angles?
THANKS in advance.

i use a barbell when doing preachers, i think you dont then get one bi better or bigger than the other.
i go all the way to the top of the curls and SQEEZE that mofo for a good second, then slowly return to the place i start from( just short of lockout, about 3 inches short) i think it keeps the stress on the bis, and is easier on the joints/ ligaments on all curls.

1) Preacher curls are for building mass
2) Flex the the biceps real hard at the top
3)I personally go to full extension on the way
down resisting the weight all the way down.
4)Don't lean back as you lift.

I prefer doing mine with a barbell, but I will switch up
and do dumbbells every so often, just for a change
of pace.

I alternate between the cambered bar and dumbbells during different arm workouts. I try to go down to almost full extension but going too far at the bottom, hyperextension, puts a lot of stress on the elbow joint. If you use dumbbells squeeze and twist at the top, with the bar just squeeze!

keep switchng i up.i say barbell curls are more for mass though.but preachers do feel good as hell regardless if you use straight bar,d/b,ez-curl bar.............

As said above, make sure you squeeze that rep as hard as you can at the top, then lower down slowly. Make sure you get the most out of the negative on the way down. But be prepared, the weight you are using now will be too heavy. When you squeeze and concentrate on the negative, your muscles will fatigue much quicker. You will get a greater pump from less weight. Don't let your pride get in the way.

I don't disagree on the barbell curls being for mass but not on a preacher bench. It's ok for a while but it gets pretty tough on the wrists and elbows. I like to do standing barbell curls with a decent amount of weight for me through full extension and contraction. For most arm workouts I use straight bar curls and some form of preacher curl.

I'd use both of them....it will change the tension to a different area of the bicep when you do it......I really like the 90 degree preacher curls because you're working your bi's the whole time.....unlike the 45-degree preacher curls which you can rest them at the top unless you're squeazing them.
