Question about "Back Day"

When I train my back, I always start out with deadlifts. But, the set of deads is so hard that when I'm done, I don't have much energy left for the rest of my lifts. I feel like I'm really lacking intensity for the rest of the day.

So, should I move deads to later in the workout? Or just not worry about the lack of intensity on everything else?

The only reason I haven't moved deads to later in the workout is because I feel they are the best exercise for the back. So, I want to prioritize them.

I say try moving them at least once. You'll be able to move more weight on another lift that might work your back differently. Then you can do your deads with maybe a little less weight.

Im not very experienced, but I have some ideas. Whatever works for you though.

I used to do squats first on leg day. After 3 balls to the wall sets of squats, I couldnt do anything else.

I started supersetting squats with leg extensions or leg curls. I just mixed it up and did something different every week. On your first set, you can go all out on squats, then after supersetting with something else, your next set you might need to drop the wieght a little, or fight your way thru the set.

Another way would be to do your isolations first. Your deads will probably be done with a lower weight, but your secondary muscles will have to work harder to lift the weight.

Its trial and error, just find something that works.

Oh btw, I find that some Metallica really gets me pumped before a workout. Some music might help your intensity.

hah! Metallica is nice...but I don't need an intensity boost before the workout. That's why deads kill me so much in the first place...cuz they're so intense.

I start every other back workout with deads. for me, pulling every week is too taxing on my system

How many sets of deads you do? If you train with enough intensity 2 sets should be enough (after warmups).
