Who the hell said 3-4 g per pounds ? never heard about this on the board. It has always been 1.5-2 g. Anyway I'm sure your post was pretty good but sorry I dont feel like spending my whole night reading one post......

be sure to consider protein quality over quantity! Whey is better than egg, egg is better than casein, casein is better than meat, and meat is better than soy. If you're using quality proteins, you may not need as many grams. I think 150 grams of whey is better than 300 grams of soy. just my 2 cents

Whey is better than egg, that's funny! Whey is crap unless it is taken with another source of protein. It is only useful post workout. Casein is one of the best protein available. I don't know about the caseinate powders but cottage cheese is an amazing source of protein. Soy isolate is not as bad as you may think. The point is you need to mix up proteins. Each one has a function.

I have tried high and low protein intake, as much as 1.8g per lb of bodyweight and 0.9g per lb of bodyweight. My caloric intake stayed roughly the same and my training was about the same.

I get much better results when I eat in the 0.9-1.1 g per lb of bodyweight range. Now, I get 200-220g and I weigh 197.

Oh......& I read......trying to find it again......that the body can only take in 30 Grams of Protein every 2 1/2 Hours......I'll find it.

I had heard this too, some time ago. I would like to know what some of the vets thoughts are on this. Is there a limit to the amount of protein the body can metabolize at one "sitting"?

Thanks,

From what I understand, this came about when the first mrps came out, and they typically had 30 grams of protein per serving. I don't think science ever had a say in this pro or con. I am sure there is a limit, however, I am unsure if it means anything. By that I mean, say you really couldn't process more than 30 grams in one sitting. If you ingest 100 grams at once, will the excess go to waste, or will it get processed in time? If so, it would be fine to ingest more than the body can utilize at once, since there would be a continuous cascade of nutrients.

I have to think the body would not 'waste' nutrients. Sure, some will be lost, but for the most part, the body is pretty damn efficient at taking what you give it.

Why do you think whey is only useful post workout? What about first thing in the morning after fasting all night? Wouldn't the rapid influx of amino acids that whey delivers be useful at that time? Whey contains more glutamine and BCAA than any other form of protein and it's much easier to digest. While whey is digested more rapidly than other proteins, I think it still last about 1 1/2 to 2 hours in the body. I think that egg and casein are great sources of protein and I agree with you, that you need to mix up proteins and each one does have a function, but I think whey has the most benefits for bodybuilders.

I don't feel a ton of protein is nessasary. I myself eat about 400 grams per day and have great results so why change a good thing ? I do however have a good friend that eats no more then 250 grams of protein a day and he weighs about 210 and he has great results that way
