periodized training marked by mini cycles of various training protocols. max effort phase/power phase, strength phase, hypertrophy phase, tempo phase. reps will vary from 1 to 3 in one phase to 8 to 15 in another. this way you are consistently changing routines as well as rep ranges which is the main point your body adapts to (adaptation happens within 3 weeks or so with reps).
