Pregnant workouts?

Hey, I am just wondering if anyone can shed some light on the whole working out while pregnant thing. Can I still do squats and abs? Can do running? I am hearing lots of mixed messages saying that working out too much can reduce blood flow to the baby.

I am not pregnant. yet. I have just been thinking about this a bunch. My workouts are the key to my sanity, but I want to have kids.

thanks

Did anyone workout while they were pregnant or should I just buy a few more shares in the ben and jerrys enterprise and call it quits?

I myself have never had a baby but I know lots of women that worked out pretty much right through their pregnancies. No, running is not advisable, but there are lots of other options available for cardio but yes, you do have to monitor your heart rate. Your weight workouts will be done from incline position as opposed to lying on a flat bench. There is no reason to quit training, you just have to adjust somethings as safety procautions for you and your baby.

I ran straight through, although I switched to an eliptical at about month 7. Lifted till the day before he was born. :)

My clients continue to do what they did prior to becoming pregnant. Pretty much the same weights and intensity with some minor modifications until about 8 1/2 months. They still squat, deadlift, leg press, and flat bench. Nothing that puts pressure on the abdominal area (i.e., lying leg curls, reverse back extension, etc.) They still do pull-throughs and back extensions off the roman chair, but the pad is on their upper thigh.

Most people have difficulty running in the second or third trimester due to increased body weight, edema, varicose veins and increased joint mobility. Some people, like Spatts, may be able to continue to run. I guess it all depends on your body right?
Spatts, I gotta tell u, u impress me more and more every day. You're like superwoman!

Spatts, were you still trying to lift heavy or were you just doing it to stay in shape during your pregnancy? :)

Heavy, but not powerlifting. I've only been PLing about 10 months.

I didn't squat heavy toward the end because it felt like he was RIGHT THERE. ;)
