Pre-workout meal advice....

So I've always thought that carbs before working out was ideal, but I've recently been reading that a bunch of carbs (even if low-GI like oatmeal) can cause a mood crash and make u feel lethargic.

Does everyone here eat carbs before working out?

You need carbs for energy. AS far as feeling lathargic, it may be for other reasons. Carbs have never affected me in that way.

What about fats? Should the intake of fats be minimised pre-workout the same way it should be minimised post-workout?

MY SCHEDULE
8 - breakfast(pro/carb)
10 - shake(pro/carb)(whey, fruit, creatine)
11- workout
12:15 PWO(pro/carb)(WHEY/DEX)
1:30 - PPWO( Pro/carb)
4 - Pro/fat
7- Pro/fat
10- Pro/fat
I dont recommend eating fats in pwo or ppwo either cutting or bulking. Eating fats prior to workout would be fine. You didnt mention when your workout is?

My workout is after my first meal. So, my schedule is as follows:
9.00 - breakfast (pro/carb)
10.00 - workout
11.30 - PWO (pro/carb)

After this, I reduce my intake of carbs to about 80 - 90g for the remainder of the day (low GI foods; such as beans, oatmeal, brown rice, sweet potato, wholemeal pasta etc) and have protein and fats with each meal. The rest of my meal timing is as follows:

1.30 -
4.30 -
7.30 -
10.30 -

Why no fats in the PPWO? Surely if it's two hours after the PWO it should be fine? I'm bulking btw.

Your body is still in a state where insulin levels are still high. I eat my ppwo 45min to an hour after my pwo, so i know my insulin levels are still high and that my body will assimilate all the food. In your case you eat your ppwo 2 hrs after pwo, so that may be fine for you. This is my opinion and something that has worked well for me for years.
