Plasma, LCD, or DLP television...which is best?

There seems to be a lot of differences in what people prefer/say it the best here.

nugget: I looked and liked that Samsung slimfit tv you described. I only wish they made it in a 35" or above. Do you mind if I ask how much you paid for it? I couldn't find it below $750 which I thought was fairly high.

FFoS: I will be playing a lot of video games on the tv so I too am worried about motion being clear on some of these tvs. I've heard LCD is good for motion (CRT being the best)

DLP suprisingly isn't too expensive, but I am still not experienced with that technology.

700 @ Bestbuy. It was 'on sale' when I got it. The other thing to concider with an LCD vs a Plasma, et al, is that most of those have fixed pixel resolutions. If you have a 1080P LCD, you have 1920X1080 pixels. If you go to play a progressive scan DVD that is 480P, it has to upconvert to fit the pixels. The problem is that fitting 480 pixels in 1080 means some pixels are 'blended' which can cause the image to blur, especially in high motion if the processor on the TV can't keep up. Make sure you get a quality component or all of your media that is not native will look like ass. Beauty of a CRT is no native resolution, so it can render any of the formats flawlessly. :) As you said, the downside is the limitation on the size.

Samsung slim fit is a great TV and grat post by nugget right in. If you are worried about gaming go with LCD Samsung Sony back lit LCD or Sharp.

My opinion would be Samsung because it is very user friendly or Sharp for the best panel

I've been mulling over this one too as I've been considering a new tv purchase for some time.

For me, plasma is out of the question for a few reasons. The obvious is it will die/fade with time. Why spend a few grand only to have your tv be junk after a few years? Repair costs for a plasma will be much worse then the cost of replacing a bulb every few years. This is what sucks most about plasmas, they SLOWLY degrade with time. With a dlp the picture quality remains the EXACT same, and when it dies it dies just like that.

Also, plasma's are hotter and noisier because of their built-in fans. They suck more energy and are way heavier (then lcds) as a result. In addition, you can get pixelation with plasmas, and the only way to avoid this is going with a much higher end one which will incur a heavy premium.

Some will mention burn-in as a problem with plasmas and lcds, but nowadays you have screesavers and pixel orbiting that solves this problem. Burn-in is more likely to occur during the first hunrded hours or so, so this really isn't a concern anymore.

Comparing lcd vs dlp is where it gets tough. Asthetically speaking, I think everyone would choose lcd over dlp due to the space saving thin advantage, but dlps are a lot cheaper inch for inch and give just as good picture quality. Toughie that's for sure.

I agree...the real debate seems to be between LCD and DLP now.

Both require lamp replacements. From what I have researched DLP is the better choice. LCD is indeed "thin" if that is a requirement for you. However, LCD is difficult to view from angles and you can also never get a true black to show....it's more of a dark brown.

I may have to get me a DLP. I may wait until Christmas shopping time though to get a better deal.

I am not taking advice from a chick when it comes to electronics, cars, or sports stuff.

Now if you want to suggest a laundry detergent or broom style, then I'm all ears.
