john937, very sorry to hear about your father.

thanks for sharing your point of view - in an ideal world the legal decisions on this subject would be made by people who have lived through it, rather than by politicians pushing agendas.

I was behind Ashcroft until he pulled that crap about covering up the nude female statue in the White House

I said this before but I remember when they showed that on the news over here. The news anchors could barely contain their laughter as they told the story.

MB!!! Thank god. A voice of reason. ¿Dónde te has metido durante todo este tiempo?

Asscroft is a fucking fool. Anyone of sufficient mental competence who wishes to end his life has every right to do so.

Ashcroft is a useless tool.....no further comments.

MB, thank you for laying the terms out there for those who are ignorant of laws....and the reversal of experience school of thought.....

If ANY American was subjected, and one was recently, to far less trials than what Ashcroft has imposed on people, Americans would be screaming like madmen...about Human rights bullshit....

Everyone of those who suggest illegal practices, even the former CIA director who suggested that we use truth serum to extract information from "detainees", because we cannot get information from them the way our Constitution has dictated, and also the Geneva Convention, you just asking for an opening for other countries to do the same to Americans, for no reason. Same thing...

Stupid

Ashcroft is a good man. I know you all do not agree with him on this one.

As for the statue thing---that was a statue that he was interviewed in front of on a daily basis and he saw it as a distraction. I see no problem with covering the statue -- but as usuall, anyone with convictions gets battered to hell in America today.

while this is a whole side issue, his embarrasment/lack of attention means a work of art is now covered up, and others cannot enjoy its beauty due to his embarassment.

personal convictions are one thing. but they shouldnt be allowed to overtly interfere with the running o a country, there has to be some sort of proffesional detachment involved. if he finds homosexuality or interracial relationships wrong, should he try and ban them? if he cant separate his personal views from his role as a employee of the people he shouldnt be in his position. 'enforced preaching' may go on in certain aspects of government rule but there are limits

im glad he didnt get his way

sorry to hear about your father john937

convictions?

 I've got a problem with wasting money, just move the damn thing! or Move your microphone licking to another place...

I hear what Ashcroft has said is the reason our civil liberties are curtailed, I still don't justify the Feds being able to come into my house, without a warrant, at anytime. WTF is that going to stop, a suitcase nuke?

ESPECIALLY when they admit, they really can't stop another attack.......I'm sure you know his good points, so bring em out...this dude couldn't even keep his congressional seat from a dead person......hmmmmmm wonder why?

Ashcroft is a member of PRUDES: Patriotic Republicans Unctuously Dressing Erotic Statues.

To kick off PRUDES' effort to bring decency back to America, Mr. Ashcroft announced plans for a new, more modest Statue of Liberty. At a cost of $8,900,600, the lady with the lantern, will soon sport a higher, buttoned collar. She will also shed her edgy punk spiked headdress for a charming mink pillbox hat with Jesus-fish hatpin -- and her clingy and all-too-revealing oxidized toga will been replaced by a sturdy calico frock, finished with a crisp, copper ruffled apron.
