well, i really dont give a fuck about the rights of illegal immigrants, SINCE THEY FUCKING HAVE NONE! i think ashcroft is a standup guy, and i agree with alot of what he is trying to do, but i think banning physician assisted suicide is ridiculous. if someone wants to die, that is their business. but really, why cant they just do it themselves?

Sorry to disappoint you, but Ashcroft is not just rounding up and "interviewing" illegal immigrants. He is harassing anyone who has immigrated here, legally or not, from an ARab country.

Further, you are wrong that illegal immigrants do not have legal rights here. They are afforded due process. If you actually read my post, you also read that a judge recently declared Ashcroft's conduct of secret trials unconstitutional.

Are you under the delusion, for analagous example, that you can go to France without a visa, break the laws, then be thrown into jail for a couple of years without due process? I can just hear you squawking.

I read an article about attempted suicide once.
Most people who were kept from doing it ( like jumping of a building) were happy they didn´t kill themselves afterwards.

Therefore i think giving them some time to think about it is a good thing, but in the end everyone should be allowed to have himself killed if he wishes so.

The Oregon law does not legalize suicide. It authorizes physician-assisted suicide in the case of a terminal disease, in which there is great pain and suffering. This is not involuntary euthanasia. Two physicians have to agree.

The strange thing is that doctors now routinely put the means of self-destruction in the hands of many teminal patients in great pain -- namely the morphine pump. They give the patient unlimited access, by which he is able to overdose and make his final exit.

I doubt that many people objecting to physician-assisted suicide have ever had the experience of a friend or family member beg them to "pull the plug" when the pain of dying was unbearable. I saw it frequently with friends dying from HIV, a ghastly death. None of us regretted helping our friends die but the whole process could have been more humanely handled with medical assistance.

Two years ago my father was diagnosed with fast growing brain tumor, and given 3 months to live.
The doctor and nurses all knew it was a hopeless case, but the doctor led us to believe that a brain operation would give him an additional productive 6 months.
This put the whole family under enourmous pressure to go along,
after all, how do you tell your father you don't want him to live longer?
The operation went ok, but in recuperation, the brain swelled, caused seizures and left him paralyzed for the remainder of his days.
The ordeal was horrendous for mother, she blamed herself for his circumstance, pressuring him to get the operation that left him paralyzed.

What's my point? Several of my relatives have died from this, and I have to consider that I may get it also.
There's no way I will go thru what my father did.
I've bought a gun and have bullets to do the job if the time comes. But how messy for my family after I'm gone. I'd so much better have a prescription for something that would end it all, but Texas doesn't allow for such. Left to my own devices I'd probably use sleeping pills, and botch the job. I've heard way too many stories about people trying to commit suicide on sleeping pills, and they vomit, and suffocate on their own wretch.

The question was raised, why don't they just kill themselves? At the point my fathers time had come, he was weak, mentally confused and in a wheelchair. Hardly in a position to go out and buy a gun and use it. And if any of us had done that for him we would be accused of murder.

As for Ashcroft, he's from the same tree as Bush.
I've been watching Bush botch everything he touches my whole life, we're from the same neck of the woods.
