Only chest strength declining?

You just can't increase both in leaps and bounds...at the same time. The shoulder can only be worked so much...and most all strongmen train the overhead press on a different day as flats.

Something that I have noticed...most people who are SUPER benchers (powerlifters) tend to REALLY struggle on the overhead press. Most people with a good overhead press...tend to be able to flat press a decent amount also. I remember seeing a 515+ pound bencher struggle with 215 on the log clean and press last Summer...I believe that he missed it too.

Sounds like you are leaning towards working the overhead press more. Do you think the strength it develops carries over to bench press better than th other way around?

Thanks,
Joker

strong delts can help the bottom of your bench if your a raw bencher.

but with a shirt i don't know if it makes much difference, you just need those tri's. maybe that why power lifters tend to be weaker on overheads
they don't need strong delts when you shirt up. i guess.

I train the overhead mostly...it is what counts for me. I notice that when I start pushing my overheads...my bench stalls...and vice versa.

ditto.
since wsb- my overhead press has gone to crap

i think its relative to how strong your overhead pressed before westside.if you where a really weak overhead presser could see you ####'s going up.

if you where a real strong overhead presser i could see your ####'s going down, i now this a complaint i've heard often.

i like parts of the Metal Militia program better because they do way more overhead pressing.

The problem is that you have become a victim of the bench press. You need to alternate your plan, by including incline presses and dips.

I'm using both bbell and dbell inclines after flat bench, weighted dips, tricep presses as well.

The only heavy exercise that I don't do now that I used to do is bbell military presses. I usaully use a hammer strength machine after my dbell presses, or use a military press at the very end of my shoulder workout.

I went ahead and did another Chest workout a few days ago. I'm able to incline almost as well as I can flat bench. I can incline a good 205x8 for a full three sets, and I'm struggling with 225x8 for a full 3 sets.

What's even more strange, is now I can flat bench dbells of 110 (so 220) as many times as I can flat bench 225. To add even more insult, about 8-9 months ago I was benching around 270x6. Since that period, I went through a massive cutting cycle, and am now a little heavier than I was before, while dropping 3% BF. So, my lbm is up, my weight is up, my diet is better, so I'm not sure what's going on.

In any event, if I can't raise my flat bench up, oh well. It's just frustrating to see the same amount of weight every workout.

bro the diagnosis is easy. you've plateaued on flat bench.

prognosis drop flat for 2 workouts...then start a new flat bench
rep/grip scheme. start with some slightly narrow presses since you seem to have strong pecs.

they're many ways too break though plateaus, this is just one.
