New to everthing & Trying to loose weight

Hi again...

I wonder if anyone had any advice on a sensitive subject...remember when I said I have obesity in my family. Well my mother was up to 300 lbs and through the Aitken's Diet has lost an amazing 88 lbs so far. :D

Although she is really happy that she is finally moving in the right direction her dramatic fat loss in leaving behind some rather saggy skin in places. :bawling: Like her upper arms and stuff. Is there away to get rid of that besides surgery? Would lifting help?

Spatts where you have done some personal training, you must have seen this before. Have you? What do you think is the way to take care of something like this...?

Please advise.

*Usually* loose skin (after weight loss) will stick around unless you have surgery . This is due to the fat stretching out your skin, then the skin can't recover - kinda like underwear that loses it's stretch after it's been around too long and washed too much. Not that I'm trying to compare your mom to old underwear :FRlol:

With older people there is less elasticity in the skin - so it loses it'a ability to snap back in place. SO I am assuming there isn't a whole lot your mom can do. It probably will tighten back up some, but it will probably never be smooth again (without surgery).

And lifting would probably help - it would fill out where the fat is gone as well as tighten up that muscle she has there. I would say lifting would be the *best* thing for her - would also speed up the fat loss!

Remaining properly hydrated, good nutrition, no smoking and staying out of the sun can strengthen skin (preventatively). She could try a Skin Firming lotions - they aren't a cure, but they do help add moisture to the skin which might help smooth it out a little. Remember though, IF she sees any benefit from the lotions they will disappear as soon as she stop using them.

Congrats to her for losing so much weight! That's gotta be hard, good for her!

Sounds hopeless, Eh?

Well I had hoped not to hear that...really. She is so proud to have lost all that weight...and she is well deserving. But she is really depressed now with the loose skin...I just wish she could lose it all and be happy for once...

Well Spatts I cheated for the first time last night. I went to a party...didnt drink...:bawling: and they had food galore...I was week and ate two stuffed cheese and brocolli mini pitas, two chips and a cracker...mmmmm...at like 2am....bad eh?

I dont feel bad though...weird. :D

You don't feel bad because it's not such a big deal! :) Now that you've cheated, you realize you CAN cheat and still stay true to your diet and achieve your goals!

Hope you had fun at the party! :dance2:

I did have fun...!

I'm not much of a partier but I had a blast...I laughed so much my abs got a workout on a sat night...;)

Well...Week 5...

I lost an awesome 2 lbs. That brings me almost to my second goal, which is 170. I'm now 171. I am doing it 10lbs at a time. Im more likely to reach my goals if I set them a little lower.

I am really excited about this because I had myself convinced I was up a couple lbs because I had a cheat meal...and it was a bad one...I ate 1/2 of a quesadilla w/ salsa and sour cream and lots of melted cheese...and about a dozen potato chips with herb dip and this was all at 9:30pm. mmmmm... I felt guilty but also felt I deserved it so...once out of 5 weeks...no sweat!

Just thought I would share my weekly success.

It's weird, isn't it--when you lose after eating big? I love that. The low-carbers call it a whoosh. Good for you!
