Like Wannabe said - take a teaspoon several times a day. 1 teaspoon~5g. I take a teaspoon with my morning shake, teaspoon in middle of the day (usually post workout), teaspoon with nighttime shake. If you have a shake before your workout take some then, but definately in a postworkout shake. 3-4 teaspoons (15-20g) a day is common. I take glutamine even on off days to keep it "stocked" in my body.
It comes in capsule and powder - capsules may be convenient but are more expensive and IMO the powder is better. My powder dissolves in water and is tasteless - so I can add some to a glass of water and gulp it down. Doesn't have to be in a shake.
Definately notice a difference in recovery time and amount of stiffness/soreness. I'm still sore after lifting, but it no longer inhibits things like walking up/down the stairs! Plus, I've noticed cardio doesn't exhaust my legs as much and I have better endurance (may be coincidence, not sure). Good stuff!
