New to biking (some major pain)

Im a 20 year old male 165lbs. Im not new to endurance events, I come from running half, full marathons and swim pretty regularly. I'd consider my self in very good shape I run my half marathons at a 6:35 pace. Im new to road biking, as in this week, my dad in his 40's has been biking for 5 years or so now and is in great shape. I went on my first ride with him the other day had a major side stitch and stopped to relive it, I couldn't finish the ride the pain started about 30min in about 8 miles and its the worst side stitch I have ever had. I then went out again the next day for an hour doing 15 miles and had no issues at all. Today went out and same old story as first day. What do you guys think it could be, just need to get into biking slowly... Im a little stumped I dont think its a lack of O2 because my legs arent cramping and feel fine. Tell me what you guys think any thing could help at this point.

i also was a runner, from 1970-1989. after some pretty bad injuries, i took up cycling.
the owner of the store, a former national champ tol me to spin my first 6 months. try to train alone , at my own pace but spin. do not even think about putting it in the big ring.
he said, yes, you may be super fit.... runners fit, but the cycling muscles are way different. so sit and spin for months before i actually get put on a training plan.
veery smart advice..
do this, and before your next workout, go spend 50 bucks on a bike fit..
improper fit=injuries and extra stress on muscles(trap, tricepsback) so go get a good fit.
just log onto a cycling forum and ask some questions.

nothing is as hard as a bike race
get your heart rate up to almost max... and then keep it there for a few hours.
gotta learn how to suffer in this sport.
good luck

Thanks, I was fitted properly by the shop but ill be doing a lot of cycling on the trainer to get used to it all.

By "side stitch" do you mean abdominal cramping? What exactly did you eat and drink leading up to the cycling? How long before you started your ride?

Could be caused by eating or drinking prior....also you can have your bike checked again. Mine needed a tweek in the begining (after being fitted) because I has getting a feeling like I was being punched between the shoulder blades after 20 miles....

I am a runner before, now a triathlete. My early experience with bicycle is always pain with shoulder, and my quads. But after prolong time of training and bike fitting. All those pain goes away
