Need some advice... good or bad

OK so I started lifting at 148 pounds about 2 years ago and made it up to 204lbs naturally. Yea I had a relatively high body fat percentage but I felt freakin great.

Few months ago I started a new job where I'm up at 5:30am and off at 7:30pm-8pm so I really can't workout afterwards. Now I haven't been to the gym for 3 months and have lost a shit load of weight... I'm probably at around 170lbs maybe less. My diet is still on target.. basically meaning I'm still consuming 5 meals a day but much less food.

Here's the plan... I want to buy the bowflex ultimate 2
http://www.bowflex.com/mMachineDetail.asp?productID=115000&productName=Ultimate%26%23153%3B+2&linkID=6 .

It has all the attatchments for all the exercises I want to perform, from squats to deadlifts to bench press, etc.

If I can get to bed around 8:30-9pm I can wake up at 4am, eat and work out. I want to eventually be competitive.

Now here's the thing... I have to sell my pool table and my mazda to buy the bowflex.

Question: Does this sound like a good plan and will it be worth it to spend my money on the bowflex???

Maybe one of you guys have this machine.

Any suggestions and comments are welcome :)

Great job on your progression so far!!

Screw the bowflex... buy a 300lb no name brand olympic bar and plate set for < $150 (US) ... get 2 sets for more weights. Buy a sturdy bench and a no frils squat rack (or power rack) ... you can put together a much better set up yourself if you wanted to.

Well, i personally would never sell a car and a pool table for a bowflex. Sure it has a ton to offer, but you can also find used equipment at a dealer nearby, also check ebay and such. Another thing, 7-8:30 pm isnt that late, a nice solid workout really only takes an hour and your body doesnt need more then 6hrs of sleep, it takes discipline. I also agree with Sgt.

he is right. F the bowflex and get a weight set + bar +bench + rack... you can do everything you need with it and it is 100x better then a bowflex.

Me thinks we're being F'd with. Sell some blood if you have to. Buy the bowflex.
+1

Also look into selling a kidney if the blood isn't enough. Whatever you have to do, get the Bowflex! I heard that's what Jake Gyllenhaal used to get so jacked for Brokeback Mountain.

lol @ CS

I say get it and keep a journal here. It'd be interesting to see your progression - I mean resistance is resistance, right? ;)

Just focus on the compound lifts and try to add a, uhhhh, bow every workout.

an olympic bar with a rack and a bench won't provide me with all the exercises I require for a full 5 day workout.

I think I'll get the bowflex and keep a journal like buddy said. Maybe the sarcastic non-helping cock suckers will be shocked at the results.

oh I didn't mention that I would need to sell my pool table anyways for room for workout equipment and the mazda doesn't run :)

thanks for all the opinions anywayz guys

I dunno. It seems the whole thread is full of guys saying the same thing: Forget the bowflex and buy some free weights.

You wanted some opinions, and everyone's is the same: The Bowflex sucks and isn't going to help you for shit.

If you think nobody is helping, then you didn't really come in here for any help. You came in here looking for someone to tell you what a cool guy you are for buying a bowflex.

Sorry, the guys around here are only interested in helping people get bigger and stronger. MAybe someplace like the CraigsList board would be a better choice?

BOWFLEX! BOWFLEX!

go for it - sell the pool table, your mazda, your house, hell even sell your mother and buy as many bowflexes as you can. that way they won't get worn out and you can have a lifelong pleasurable workout experience.

How is he expected to do tibia raises, crossovers and cable concentration curls with something as primitive as a barbell?

I thought I had problems with my uneven floor in the stable. How the hell someone does cleans and high pulls on a bowflex though is beyond me. He must have awesome balance. Shame you couldn't take a vid.
