My Training Journal

Yeah I think so. Tomorrow if I have time after work Ill try and get the bus there and see what the journey is like if its possible etc.
Yes. Work the logistics. Otherwise, perhaps we can work on something. Let me know how it stands. I can always offer help. You should check out andy bolton's site. Ask him for a PL friendly gym. I remember him listing a whole bunch out a while ago.

Whats your EXACT location in England? Gimme your address so I can ask this on bb.com. The guys on the PL section are very resourceful and helpful.

man I have looked and there doesnt seem to be any. Besides Im not PLing right now anyway. I think my old one will do fine if I can get the bus there...

check your karma messages

Let's not talk about why people get banned, m'kay? If you have questions of this sort, I would PM a mod. Training forum rules have always been clear. This is not chat.

WTf.....lol......such a curt reply? Dude...we're regulars on EM's journal. You could atleast explain to us why you'd ban him lol.

What's up :) to those who asked I am not totally sure why I was banned because whoever banned me put this as the reason "you better get your ass into the purgatory forum and get talking" lol. I have a pretty good idea though I was fucking around in chat with a few other people and it seems like I had been blamed for something I didn't do. Anyway the ban has been lifted (it was meant to be a 2 week ban) and I had the bulk of today as a time out so I'm not going to bother going on about it and asking questions or anything. But thanks to whichever mod unbanned me!

what the fuck. so Iv been excited for days thinking I can go to the gym finally today and I get there and find out it doesnt open again until September 7. That will make it 3 weeks I will have been out of the gym for

Im raging right now

dude I just wish for once those guys would do full reps. Still that is pretty damn strong, he also did 315x21 reps in his other video and said his max was 530 raw. I just looked and I am almost the same strength right now as I was i march, over 5 months ago :( Fucking retarded

if yuo look those are pretty much full reps he just has real short arms. Granted his arms arnt locked but they are straight....

FINALLY found a place to train at until my gym re-opens

I had to squat with a short 5kg bar lol but whatever Im glad I got to workout

You got the grippers!! Nice!

I got them months ago bro! When I first got then I couldnt quite shut them for even 1 rep. Right hand was like 1cm away from touching the handles and left hand was a little further away.

Now my PR is I think 27 reps on each hand. When I reach 30 reps Ill buy the HG-200...

Bro, this is the last time I say this. No ofense and you're a good bro, but if anyone asks why someone was banned on here, the rules are clear. They will get a timeout. Seriously man, not too hard to follow.

i know i know bro but one thing at a time right? First I gotta get onto the 200 before I even think of the 250 lol. Maybe this time next year I will be getting close to needing the 250... hopefully Ill get better at them when Im done cutting too

yeah I don't use my grippers enough I still can't quite get the 250 for 1 rep yet. I can do the 150 for over 50 reps though

my gym has finally re-opened on the other side of town and I think I have it sorted how Im going to be able to go there just like before. Pretty sure I have buses and lifts and stuff sorted.

I AM SO HAPPY!!!!!

not worked out in forever, lifted twice over the last 3 weeks btu diet has been great today and carbed up a bit since its a workout day

Chest, Tri's. Dissapointing workout in weight, almost embarrassed to post some of this lol but felt great to get back in the gym!

Benchpress
bar x 8
99 x 8
110 x 8
132 x 3 x 3 (dynamic)
171 x 3
187 x 7
171 x 10
110 x 25

Incline DB embarrassing, jumped onto the 50's expecting 12 or 13 reps lol my tri's were fucked from the high rep bench set though

60 x 16
40 x 20

2 sets 15 for external rotator cuffs
2 sets 15 for internal rotator cuffs

foam roller

the benchpress fuckin killed my tri's. Incline DB's the reps were all easy then all of a sudden my tri's bummed out and I couldnt lock shit out and could hardly even keep stable lol. Reverse Grip Bench felt a bit awkward and by then my tri's were so blown I could hardly unrack the weight, very hard time getting it out of the rack and at one point nearly dropped it on myself lol, pretty embarrassing not even repping 90lbs lol but whatever.

Fun times so glad to be in the gym I got in there thinking it wouldnt be the same as before and it would be shit but everything was just like before in a new location, bit more space and no orange walls lol. I got in there smiling like a retard I was so happy to be there lol.

Deadlifting next workout!!!

yeah lol my PR while cutting is 187x8 so to be honest Im not really loosing any strength which is cool. I had an initial drop due to reduced carbs and obviously because I am shrinking on size lol but at least my strength levels seem to have levelled out. Im hoping to gain back a little thickness on my back that I lost since I havnt deadlifted in so long, hopefully with muscle memory even while cutting I can make some small improvements. My back used to be my strongest bodypart and now it just isnt lol.

great workout em! no way those chins were strict though man...

Thanks. They were mouth-to-bar, had to kick on a little on the 13th rep of the first set but the rest weren't too sloppy... Im gonna video my chins some time.

whenever I do wide grip chins I never go chin over the bar though. I do get my chin over the bar however if I do curl grip chins or neutral grip chins.

but were they deadhang? IE remember the video of the 16 pull ups I made a while back that weren't deadhang? Do you do them like that?

I dont rememeber your video like that. But I dont pause at full extension motionless just hanging if thats what your asking. But I dont ever remember seeing you do that either lol.

Yeah that is what I was saying my videos were always not deadhang:
YouTube - 16 Pull Ups---Bodyweight 192.8

But now I've started going deadhang on all reps imo it's much better you get a great rear delt pump when you first do it too. I don't necesarily pause a long time at the bottom (some sets I do) but I at least hit deadhang and pause for a second or so. Video up those pullups! I never realized that I wasnt going deadhang till I took a video

fuck deadhangs lol Im not strong enough/light enough to do them yet and get a decent amount of reps... same goes for getting my chin over the bar. When I first started wide grip chinning my grip wasnt even that wide and I only went as high as forehead to the bar...

I could get a good amount of deadhand chin over the bar reps if I used a close neutral grip though.

I will video them not next workout but the one after.

That video wasnt deadhangs at all you didnt even fully extend your elbows on really any of the reps. My grip is also wider than yours.

I posted the video because I was showing that as typical non-deadhang use momentum form. I was just wondering if your form was like that or not. BTW, after doing deadhang ones for a little while I was able to get 14 deadhang reps so your body adjusts quickly. And in that video none but the last and 1st one were deadhang which was the point of posting it

sorry i thought i rememebred you saying you did a video of deadhang pullups and i thought you meant it was that one.

no i dont use that much momentum i dont think, like i said ill video them. Squatting tomorrow cant wait :)

enjoy your squats man! Tomorrow I'm starting the 5x5 can't wait it's been 2 weeks (since 8/28/10) since I've done a full lifting workout:(

Fuck I have to do a gay ass fitness test tomorrow and I will be on low carbs and with sore legs from squatting the day before lol.

I am gonna get pwnt because pretty much everyone else in my sports studies class plays rugby and soccer and stuff for big teams lol. Hopefully there is like some upper body strength part of the test where I might have a little chance to not come last lol. I cant imagine if I had to do this test when I was 209+... :worried:

Quads, Calves

Didnt do any abs or grip because of my fitness test tomorrow as I wouldnt be suprised if pullups, situps and pushups were in there somewere aswell as running. I fuckin hate pushups... and I hate running for that matter too lol. I actually dreamt about running last night, I dreamt I used to be super fast at running like when I was about 10 years old, felt awesome and Im now motivated to run once a week. Nothing big to start because I get ankle, shin and knee issues when running (maybe cutting weight will help this) but I will try to do some running once a week.

Wasn't as bad as I thought. There was a shuttle run type thing which I didn't have time to do, wall squat hold, vertical jump test, balance test, reaction time test, max situps in 30 sec and a flexibility test.

Whatever we scored was either rated poor, fair, average, good or excellant. There was like a table for each event telling what we achieved.

I got good and average in everything except the max situps in 30 sec, got excellant on that one and beat everyone with 30 situps in 30 secs.

Didn't look up what my wall squat hold was but just kept going till I beat my partner, pretty sure I beat everyone in the class to with 2 mins 30 sec. Called it quits there cause it was the end of the lesson and I had beat my partner...

PS I know tcock will say it so I'm saying now I don't care if 30 in 30 secs isn't excellant according to the army or rangers or whatever :)

actually man 30 in 30 seconds is pretty good. Were they full situps though ie hands behind head, all the way sitting? 30 in 30 is good speed man relax haha!

Haha that's hilarious...plus T can't make fun of you since he's 2 away from maxing :D Just kidding T!

Anyway, 30 in 30 secs is pretty damn awesome actually, as long as it's full army situps and not the marine corps 'crunch.'

arms dont have to be anywere in particular I put my hands on the sides of my head. Rules were shoulders have to touch the floor and I dont know how they defined the completion of a rep other than if someone was cheating it would be obvious. I just say all the way up like normal but I have to admit 3 of the reps I didnt quite touch my shoulder blades to the ground I was maybe an inch off.

how about marine 3 mile compared to army 2mile?

yeah I'm not going to lie it's harder to max the marine corps pft that the army one. You gotta get an 18 minute 3 mile, 100 crunches in 2 minutes (actually this is about the same as 78 army situps), and 20 deadhang pullups (pretty solid). As for you em I once made fun of mike because he said something like "I pretty much destroyed the pt test (the one at massachuusets maritime) with a 7 minute mile" and I was like lol a 7 minute mile is not destroying anything. That's all I've ever said about not being up to army or whatever. Lol that was funny though.

Ramnares: I know man it's my speed is actually slow on situps. I figured out at the end too I should have used more legs that makes it way easier. Even our lieutenant colonel in charge could do 96 in 2 minutes:)

Yeah you've got me there Gladiator, that 3 mile run is the real kicker :)

As for the situps T, I thought you already knew to use your legs a bit ! Also I f ind that if I'm starting to slow down my SU pace, focusing on using one side for a few then switching usually helps.

nice weight drop man, but how u coping with the strength losses?

Thanks. I'm only just coping lol. It's embarrassing, my upper body pressing has suffered the most. I can do about 10 dips right now at 188-190, when bulking I could do 4 dips with a 44lb plate plus my 206lb bodyweight lol I could also do 11 bodyweight reps so I'm actually doing less reps right now at a lighter bodyweight lol.

Sucks because this fag at school must have got pissed at the reputation I had for being big and strong because now I'm on the sixth form with him he has been saying to people to ask me what my best benchpress is so he can beat it lol. He is 3 years older than me btw.

What makes it worse is someone said to me at school the other day "You don't look as broad as you used to..." I do look smaller in clothes right now especially after a few days of low carbs when I'm looking a little flat... Makes me embarrassed to even go out the house lol :(

Well I would stop cutting pretty soon and just try to maintain the weight man. You're strength will come back quick if you stop the cutting

No, when I started cutting I said to myself that I would see this through and wouldnt quit half way through no matter how bad it got. When Im as lean as I want to be Im sure I will look back and say it was worth it. Besides (im hoping) its mostly temporary strength loss that will come back when I implement more calories. I can see my squat and dead dropping a bit from my midsection size dropping but shouldnt be anything too drastic.

Im actually having thoughts about going down the bodybuilding route after I finish cutting lol but that is months away so Ill try to put it out of my mind.

but you've lost 30 pounds right (215 to 186?) Any more than that is unadvisable your body will just put it right back on. Your the type of body that naturally wants to get heavy man dont go below 180 at smallest. I'm not trying to be a dick but if you go below 180 I doubt you'll get back your strength for a good year or 2. Around 185 though it shouldnt take long to get back your strength. Personally after I was done cutting I would go with the bill starr 5x5, get all my strength back, then switch to a bodybuilding style routine. You'll get pretty jacked that way

no I have lost ~20lbs. I was at a consistent 209 and now I waver around 186-188

And yes my two main ideas to get my strength back were simple madcow 5x5, or the 5/3/1.

5x5 - weight pr's each week
5/3/1 - rep pr's for the most part

bro you dont understand, I am still not that lean. I want to have visible abs when I am relaxed, I have some decent upper abs when I tense them but very little abs at all when relaxed, as I breathe you can just see the outline of the top of my abs. My back and delt definition has come through a little more too but nothing special. I want to be leaner still and I still havnt really implemented much cardio.

I do low intensity fasted cardio every sunday for about 40mins. I try to do 15mins pwo cardio moderate intensity after every workout. Other than that nothing. So I still have a few more things to add in when weight loss stalls. Another fasted morning cardio session on Saturday for example.

Couple of things to keep in mind.

Genetics play a big role.

I can get pretty big easily and strength gains are easy to get if I eat and sleep.

That said getting lean for me is difficult and I tend to lose alot of muscle and especially strength.

Natural competitive bodybuilders are actually kinda small. When they step on stage average 5'7"-5'10" guys pretty much always come in between 165-190lbs on stage in cut condition and these are full on bodybuilders that train hard and give it every last bit they have. Certainly not what I would call jacked.

For some guys it's very difficult to have both a 6 pack and carry significant size naturally. Actually this would be most people. If you are honest with yourself you realize most guys walking around with a 6 pack aren't very big. Ya, here and there you see a guy that's pretty jacked with abs. Chances are his genetics are either better than most people's, he on the sauce or he's been busting his ass a long time, or all of the above.

I gotta be honest. I wouldn't even attempt to cut down until I was pretty sure I could sit at a very solid 200lbs at 8-10% at 5'8.5". I also wouldn't bother doing it without anabolics. Alot of guys don't realize that the bodybuilders in the late 60's and early 70's only used anabolics for like 10-12 weeks before a show to gain a little muscle and "hold on" to all the mass the have worked hard for when dieting down. All those guys were on steroids. By today's standards probably not that much, but even then you can clearly see the difference they make in holding onto mass and how big you can be while cut compared to today's natural bodybuilder's.

I'm kind of a believer in the old school way. Get fuggin big and strong regardless, and then chisel it down. For me that's like hitting 255 or so before I'd consider cutting down.

One last thing. 6 packs are pretty, but they don't mean shit if you don't have the size and strength to go with it. 185lbs or smaller with a 6 pack is nothing. 200lbs or more with a 6 pack is when you start having the size along with the definition to really be impressive looking. imho.

Very good points and I had all that in mind up until I started cutting, and I know it's no where near 255lbs like you said but I did manage to get up to 215lbs by the end of the day at 5 foot 7 and 15 years old so I did bulk up and try to fill out as best I could before cutting.

There where just somany reasons I wanted to loose fat, I will list Them if you want.

Besides I have said this over and over, I'm not looking to be super lean, I'm not hoping for a sixth pack. Visible upper abs when relaxed is lean enough for me. From what I have seen of pictures of other guys at various bodyfat percentages I'm guessing this will occur somewere between 12% and 15%

and to what you said about using drugs is best for cutting, that is not a route I want to take right now. Do you know I'm 16 y/o?

I didn't know you were 16 years old. I wasn't recommending you do anabolics. Just giving general background on cutting down and the realities of it.

215 at 5'7" and 16 years old is pretty damn tankish. I was 167lbs at 16 and roughly the same height with a good year+ bodybuilding style training.

Honestly I would dump cutting and just focus on getting stronger and stronger and then when you hit like 19-20 cut it down. If you make consistent progress until then you will likely be strong as fuck and big enough to really rip it down and look badass come college time.

Imo.

dude since I've come here he's gone from 170-215 I think if he kept that up he'd be a mofucking monster by the time he was 18 but oh well

wow this is a big post :)

I'd be interested to hear your reasons for cutting, I was considering to do it a couple months ago.

not in any order...

1. tired of being fat, aesthetic reasons
2. being fat put me in a higher up weight class in PLing and basically made my lifts look worse because I weighed more
3. had just grown out of the 198's and didnt want to compete at the bottom of the 220's
4. better health
5. needed a break from heavy lifting

to put it into perspective imagine having a really hot wife. She is so hot you get compliments from other dudes and girls all the time but for some reason you and her cannot have sex or anything of the sort. People are always saying wow it must be awesome to fuck her but you know you never have done. If you always say no its not really that awesome then people think you are just fishing for more compliments. Eventually you have to split up with the wife which sucks at the time but when its all sorted and you find a new gf/wife maybe not as hot you can start fucking her and it will be better in the long run.

well my situation was like that. I was big and people couldnt really tell I was fat so everyone was always saying how big i was and stuff and I got quite alot of compliments, and people said wow it must feel so good to be big and stuff but for me it wasnt, even though I was big I couldnt do anything with it, I couldnt show it off because I looked like shit without a shirt on. I looked good in the gym when I was lifting but when my shirt came up and my belly hung out it didnt look good lol. So on the surface to other people everyone thought it was awesome but it really wasnt and no one really understood. It was like having the hot wife but really she's hot for no reason because you cant put it to any use. I looked good in a hoodie but not much else lol. And my waist size was getting bigger. When I said to people Im really not that good looking Im pretty fat they were like "omg no your not!" and i would sound like a girl if I was always saying oooh im so fat lol.

long winded explanation but I hope you get it now lol. Im not that much better off now but my waist size has dropped alot and Im still getting smaller, granted when I wear my hoodies I no longer look as imposing and stick out in public as much but Im putting up with that for now, it kills me and makes me not want to go out the house lol.

Yes cutting would be so much better with drugs lol.

Sorry bro Im not dumping cutting, I already told you I said to myself Im going to see this through and thats what Im going to do. I already fucked up one attempt at cutting and I dont want it to happen again.

dude since I've come here he's gone from 170-215 I think if he kept that up he'd be a mofucking monster by the time he was 18 but oh well

Actually, in the last 2 years I went from 148 to 188, back down to 172 then back up to 209 (these are all weights taken when I wake up and empty my bladder)

the biggest weight I ever recorded was 215 at the end of the evening one day. When you see my before pic you will see how bloated I was. That bloat got me the 242 bench and 198x5 CGBP I was wanting for so long so its not all bad but man I look like shit, it digusts me to even look at the pics.

Damn EM pretty deep!

nah just playing man, i love the comparison between the hot wife and you though lmao

Do people actually comment on you getting smaller? damn man that sucks, but really even if you get to your desired BF you will still probably be big without a shirt on, especially since you are shorter right?

hey dude :)

lol I have had a comment saying that I dont look as broad yes. And I have just had a recution in comments on my size.

Im 5'7 so pretty short, Im hoping to grow a bit more over the next 2 years lol 5'10 would be ideal

Lol I feel so small weighing in the 180's

You're spinning your wheels. But we have been over this before. Infact, we go over this again and again and again and again.

You're gonna lose weight. You're gonna lose more muscle. Everybody here will cheer you on. I am sure you will shoot your metabolism in the face. Strength will be lost. You will be smaller but you'll convince yourself that you're happy. Then you will try to get strong. You will get big because you will bounce back to this end. Then you will get sad in the process. Then you will decide that cutting is better because in gaining strength you have become too "fat". So you will cut again. Repeat cycle.

This is silly.

Ok, I hope your ready for this... Let me just let me throw on my coveralls and fire suit seeing as I'm about to get flamed.

Unless you compete there is no need to bulk and cut, unless your a complete hardgainer just eat good, hardy meals and lift heavy ass weight. I know I am oversimplifying but instead of drastically changing weight every season to bulk and cut just eat like a pro and your body will grow. From an evolutionary point of view why would you need to eat unhealthily gigantic portions of food to build muscle, just constantly supply your self with large amounts of food and you can continue to put on muscle without hav ing to overeat so much. Eat big and grow, there is no need to be cutting and bulking.

In your situation just work your way up from 180lbs. dont bulk and eat excessive quantities of food just eat like an athlete, high protein meals 5 times a day. Yes it is somewhat of a fine line but lifters are always going for extremes, try to walk down the middle and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Typed this up in 5 minutes, don't be overly critical.

It took you 5 fucking minutes to compile that complete crock of goddamn bullshit cadet!!!!!!!!!!

Lol just kidding I agree completely I've seen many a good article on the myth of cutting an bulking. The only time I'd disagree is if someone is drastically overweight or underweight. If you're drastically underweight (6'4 140) then it's time to eat a lot, at least for a little bit. If you're drastically overweight, you're going to need to start cutting down 5 meals a day isnt going to let you lose weight.

Leave your flame retardant suit on though I dont know whats coming next

If you know this why have you been cheering EM on? You should've said this the second he posted he about wanting to do this ridiculous cut and what not. Instead you've been beating around the bush. Don't do that. Remember when I first started posting here you guys were all up EM's ass telling him how awesome he was...and then he got injured. And you guys had seem his terrible DL videos. None of y'all should've encouraged him at the time.

This is all fine in hindsight but try to practice this same thinking now. Next time somebody decides to do something silly tell them it is silly. Simple.

Grandfather Andalite coming in clutch with some sound advice.

He's right, there shouldn't be any smoke being blown up anyones ass, we are never going to see eachother in real life so don't be shy to deal out some constructive criticism. It's alright to compliment one another but I too also watched silently as EM dropped pound after pound on this nonsensical cutting, I thought it was dumb but I didn't feel like being a D-bag about it, my bad. Stop starving yourself bro, your too young to be cutting and bulking, you'll grow regardless. Just sit back, eat up, lift and watch the magic that is puberty give you some muscle. Seriously your a growing boy, its that simple.

Did you see my posts on the previous page?

"Well I would stop cutting pretty soon and just try to maintain the weight man. You're strength will come back quick if you stop the cutting"

Also, em's recent deadlift video was fine in my opinion. His form wasnt pretty, but his back stayed pretty consistently straight. And I mean I think in his case a little cutting was fine, I wouldn't of gone below 200 or 195 though. However he did it nice and slow over months not super quick so that's good.

Last point: Just because we tell him to stop cutting and are all serious about it means shit. His own life is his own life and if he wants to cut, he's gonna do it. I can understand his reasons and to be honest (since we're all being perfectly honest) I think 215 5'7 at such a young age is overweight. I think a cut to 200 is advisable. Anyway do what you need to do em but get that strength back!

Andalite: get out of my log. You only ever have negative things to say and I'm tired of it.

Mike: yeah I see what your saying and I actually came to that conclusion a while ago. At first I was thinking I would get a massive rebound after cutting and get huge and strong but I know it will just make me fatter (stronger though) and bloated like a pregnant woman lol. I will talk over my new diet plan with the person who is currently helping me with me fist because the macro percentages and methods he has given me so far seem to have worked well. So I'll post up my diet plans when the time comes to quit trying to loose weight. I doubt I will be "bulking" with massive amounts of calories my diet will probably be very similar to what itcis now on a higher carb day.

Tblock: agree with you too you said alot of the same things as mike. I want to loose fat though and I say it again and again I'm not bothered about the negative points anymore I'm still not very lean at all and it can't be unnatural for my body to be at a healthy bodyfat percentage so I don't see why I shouldn't be able to get any leaner. I think you guys are imagining me leaner than I really am. I really was a fat pig at 209...

Lol I guess it's hard to get a perspective from a video or pictures. I've never met you in real life so maybe if I was to stand next to you I'd get it. I got to say I agree in your case you should have cut. Just be careful man.....and for andalite or anyone I'm not just saying it I really think he should have cut I mean 5'7 210 is big enough (unless it was all muscle) to be of concern healthwise.

That's crap.

I'm 5'8.5" and 233lbs stripped. My resting heart rate was taken as 64bpm today and that was after drinking a 5 hour energy. I had to go through a series of 4 max effort exercises on iso-kinetic machines and it was literally one of the hardest workouts I have ever done. Even after a 5rm on a simultaneous back extension/flexion maching where I was generating over 358lbs of force from the spinal erectors alone and over 170lbs on the flexion(think cable crunch) my heart rate didn't go past 132bpm and that's about 20 seconds of all out full force effort through the full range of the concentric and eccentric phases of the lift.

210lbs at 5'7" is not too big for your health unless your are a total fatass with zero cardio.

I'm not gonna bother saying why I think it's waste of time to be cutting, but I just wanted to clarify I don't agree with this.

I know a serious powerlifter who is 5'6" and 230lbs and he is built like a fuckin brick shit house.

I will admit I have not seen EM, so maybe he does look like a chubby fuck and has no cardio.

P.S. Sometimes it's difficult to hear the tough love which is what Andalite was doing. If you want to take it completely negative like that then that's your choice, but don't go complaining when you're still pushing shit weight a year from now.

P.S. Sometimes it's difficult to hear the tough love which is what Andalite was doing. If you want to take it completely negative like that then that's your choice, but don't go complaining when you're still pushing shit weight a year from now.
bullshit. I'm not trying to offend you here but with your lifting numbers there is no way you are that jacked. You are almost certainly 20%+ bodyfat which is unhealthy. Resting heart rate, although an important indicator of cardio health means shit for the rest of your health. You got to remember too that he is 16 years old I do believe 5'7 210 is a little too much weight for a 16 year olds joints to be carrying around. This is an interesting discussion though but even if em is 8% bodyfat 210 pound is a little heavy to be carrying around on a 5'7 frame at 16 years old. If he were 20 this would be a different story though

Lol.

I could blow your assumptions on relative bodyweight to height and age and it's affect on health away from all the guy's I knew in high school, but what's the point?

Something else to consider is that a strong, healthy lifting bodyfat % for many lifters is between 10-20% depending on genetics. Standard heavy weight powerlifter and weightlifter bodyfat % is around 15-20%. For many people trying to lift big on sub 15% bodyfat is not actually ideal for a host of reasons that I won't bother going into here. Everyone's untrained natural bodyfat varies as well. You might sit at 14% doing nothing. I might be 17%, but proportionally much bigger.

You're assuming alot. I've been around alot of high level lifter's and around a handful of absolute genetic freaks as well as studied the iron game for close to 17 years now and have made as many stupid mistakes as anyone so I'm generally not spewing bullshit when I say something nowadays.

I've gained roughly 28lbs in the last 4 months just lifting and eating. Add in muscle memory and I've put just under 100lbs for reps on both bench and squat in that time. In 6 months to a year I'll be far stronger. Am I concerned about carrying a little extra bodyfat? No. I train hard in the gym. Most of my food intake is pretty solid. I supplement with fish oil, vitamin/minerals. I do moderate cardio a couple times a week. I feel solid. My heart rate is below the average healthy heart rate for my age and my blood pressure is normal. I have gained bodyfat, but relative to my untrained state I haven't gained that much.

Good luck with your lifting.:jenscat

I'm sorry but you're using kind of lame evidence. Powerlifters are not at all healthy.....seriously none of them are, most die young, or are so messed up by the time they are 40-50 they can barely walk down the street. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that, they spent their life doing something they love and acheived far more than most people. EM wants to stay healthy and losing a little weight probably was a good thing for him. However I think he is naturally heavierset like you so he probably shouldn't drop down below 185 or at most 180. Up to 20% bodyfat can be healthy for sure and it sounds like you take good care of your health so the more power to you! I just don't believe that over 20% is a natural and healthy state for people to be in.

My untrained bodyfat percentage was 6.8% freshman year when I was insanely skinny lol like 133 5'9. Now I'd say I'm 12-14% But I'd say for my build type that is perfect for lifting.

One last point: You said yourself one time that you were like 160-170 in highschool. Don't you agree that 210 pounds is a lot to be carrying around for a 16 year old who is only 5'7? I mean I just dont think still growing joints like that are made to have that much.

Anyway I love discussions like this and meant no offense to anyone stay healthy :)

Yes I was a fat fuck with no cardio at 209  I'm feeling great now I'm leaner and want to keep going for a while longer. I foubt I'm even 15% bf yet...

I'm with T on this one, 210 is a lot to be carrying around for your height at your age. I think the important thing here is to recognize how young you are. Sure you'll lose strength cutting and getting to a better body fat %, but it'll be worth the suffering when you build back up and it's all muscle instead of flab.

My workout partners always complain that I won't grow because I do 'a lot' of cardio (to them it's a lot) but if I can bench 400 lbs but can't run to the end of the block then what's the point???

Exactly bro. Good points.

Yeah EM... in the past i've spoken to you about cutting a lot and i am glad you're losing weight. As others have said, it's not only healthier in the long run, but it's also going to make you feel better about yourself once beach season comes :)

Keep up the good work bro!

also did 6-8 sets of light pinwheel and zottman DB curls with the fat gripz. Did 3 sets while I was waiting for the smith machine to do standing calves, did another set before seated calves and I think 2 more sets afterwards. Used the fat gripz on all. Pumped my forearms up pretty good. It was all light weight and easy for my bi's but pumped the shit out of my forearms, especially the zottman curls. I did some sets with 33's of pinwheel curls and then aload of sets with 22's and did zottman curls. Fun stuff.

good workout, pretty long though.

jdid - thanks bro
