My Thoughts on HIT

Thanks so much for the comments bro.

This has been a rough week on me and my fam as we found out my little sister has a brain tumor and will have to have brain surgery.

I don't have time respond right now, but I agree wholeheartedly with your post. I see some good things on this board, and hopefully we can have many more good conversations in the future.

Will respond later tonight hopefully.

Animal, I'm sorry to hear that. My fiancee' went through cancer from 15 until now. It nearly got her, but she beat it. I know your sister will come through too. If you ever need to talk, PM me or send me an AIM. - C3

...got my hands folded and fingers crossed. All my love to you, R, C, and the family.

At a gross level, adaptation occurs in response to load. So, squat 140 for 2 sets to failure of 5 reps each = 1400Kg load. Or you could squat 125 Kg for 6 sets of 6, never going anywhere near failure and squat a load of 4500Kg.Which do you think has the greater potential for causing adaptation? Is fatigue accepted as a primary driver of adaptation? Nope. It's almost irrelevant. Onwards to more personal issues...

I'm not a big fan of HIT, but this is one point I will strongly disagree with you on. I think adding up poundage X sets X reps to come up with a total load as a means of judging an exercise's impact is COMPLETE HORSESHIT.

For example: Suppose someone has a 1RM of 400 lbs in the bench press. Assume two alternative workouts - Workout A consists of bench pressing 315 lbs for 10 reps to failure and then doing 365 for 5 reps to failure. Total "load" would be (315 X 10) + (365 X 5) = 4975 lbs. Workout B consists of bench pressing 225 lbs for 3 sets of 15 reps not going anywhere near failure on any set. Total "load" would be (225 X 15 X 3) = 10,125 lbs. There is no way that Workout B is as effective as Workout A and it sure as hell is no f*cking way twice as effective. That's the problem with "load ratings", they are totally biased towards doing hi reps with light weight and do not take into account % of 1RM or whether or not the set was taken to failure. Load ratings are completely worthless in my book.
