linear sets training

I was reading about John Meadows and his training recommendations for new guys. He said to do linear sets, so would that mean on chest day for example I do 4 sets of pushing until I can only hit 2-3 more reps close to failure? This would be a twice a week thing. If I did them I calculated it to over 20 sets a week just on that spot, is that too much?
 
I like linear sets but you need to combine with drop sets
