late night postworkout meal

I get home from the gym about 9 at night, and have to be up for cardio at 4:30. So basically, I'm eating, then going straight to bed. Would it be OK to have the recommended postworkout carbs and protein, or should I just slam a protein shake and go to bed?
 
I agree, eat a post meal cycle. Your muscles are waiting to be fed so they can grow. Just dont take in too many calories, you want enough that the body can use them without having any left to store as fat

I'm sorry bro...but that's about the worst advice you could've given him.....after a workout the best thing is to get a protein shake so the protein gets into your muscles qucker. I would also take in a post-workout meal....and like Chuck T said....try not to get to many calories. I'd get about 40g of protein and about 30-40g of carbs depending on your stats. and goals these figures might be a little different. I wouldn't worry about it to much though because of your early morning cardio....so what ever your body is storing from overnight it will be burned the next morning.
 
I disagree: Liquid meals are ideal after a workout. You have just broken your muscles down and you want to supply your muscles with the building blocks they need as soon as possible which is why a fast digesting LIQUID meal is ideal.
 
You might want to try a combination of whole food and a liquid protein. The liquid will be absorbed more quickly to help feed your muscles then the whole food protein will gradually digest over night providing protein to help keep your muscles out of a catabolic state.
