I was just going to ask wtf kind of gym doesnt have a squat rack, then I read boxing gym....wy don't you joina real gym bro...you don't look like you're just a recreational lifter.
Ive gotten really into boxing over the past 6 months or so. I figure the trade off is worth it if I really enjoy the boxing aspect and can find sometging to supplement the smith machine problem. The gym has more than enough outside of the squat rack.
I know its not ideal, but its not the end of the world either.
you could put the smith bar all the way down to the bottom of the rack and put the safeties higher up and put a squat bar in there and squat inside the smith machine just not using the smith bar. Or if there are no safeties then load the squat bar onto one of the hooks that the smith bar clips onto.

I find front aquats in the smith go be acceptable. You can clean a bar and then get it behind your neck and widen your hands, push press it up and do overhead squats. Neither are real alternatives, but will work in the short term.
