Ok, I'm going to sign up for the ISSA cert, I've been talking with a rep for about a week now, as well as BigNate.... It sounds like one that definately has creditability.

I am also considering getting the ISSA Nutritionist Certification. As the guy will cut me a deal of 150 off each cert if I get them in a package.

And before anyone says "aren't you an attorney" ... there are some complication to THAT right now, but all will be rectified soon... I HAVE a plan.

Ill be done with the test soon....Just 5 case studies left....
Are you going to be taking it at home, or go to one of the seminars?

Most likely doing the home course.

LOL -- why not an attorney? For one, my area of speciality is completely closed off to me right now for anything other than contract work. Which is good, because I can bill at around $100-150 an hour to law firms... but... bad in that I might get like 10 hours a month. lol So, I need SOMETHING that will at least pay for my food... I love training, always have... so why not teach it to others?

i almost did that once apon a time, but now i seriously am considering taking the test. Do you think, ISSA is worth it and credible enough. I dont want to be a personal trainer and have other people laugh at me for where i got certified.

That's why I am ordering the ISSA one, I finished the NESTA one, but everyone is like "Who?"

Just a shame that people who do know what they are talking about as far as training is concerned need to be certified. More than half of those monkys that are certified have never lifted a weight before.

Good luck.....and don't sell out by training people on machines when you get the certification;)

NO way. Granted, I might not be taking any clients through hang cleans, or clean and jerks. LOL

Yeah, I just talked to the guy at 24 Hour Fitness and he said NESTA who?! Then I said ... "Uhh... yeah, but I'm signed up and working on ISSA" and he's like "Oh, yeah, we know that one!" *insert laughter*

I'm going into fill out the proverbial application around 5pm (about an hour)... they asked if I had a fitness degree... I said I had a legal degree and asked if that held any significance in the fitness industry. :)

Ahh well... I do have a pretty good knowledge of plyometric training, how to increase verticle jump, speed and quickness... I got that from my training at IU... just never thought about it. :) That, and I suppose 8 years of hitting iron, and learning through trial and error has left me with a pretty solid knowledge... but you know what? I'M STILL LEARNING!!!!

I'm beginning to think that 24 Hour Fitness is a corporate jumble-heap. I called my local center and they said for me to come in and fill out an application (one of the trainers)... then, the front desk guy gives me a business card with the 24 Hour fitness website on it and says for me to do it online... to see if 24 Hour Fitness is "my type of place"...

Well then.

I've already done this online crap... I don't think that anyone responds to anyone. I even filled out one with my roommates name saying he had a Masters in Exercise Science and 5 Nationally Recognized Certifications about 3 weeks ago... if they wouldn't want THAT guy... I don't know WHO they would.

dont get discouraged yet. front desk people, have no clue. other trainers, have no clue. talk to the fitness manager. he is concerned with you working, training people, getting them results, and ultimately resign'ing. if you "fit the look" its good business for him as well. if he has trainers with bad attitudes, out of shape, etc, then he may be begging for trainers, but other trainers have no idea what the fitness manager's needs are. alot of times too, trainers dont want new trainers in the gym because it takes their business. dont be shocked that this job is cut throat.

ps...dont apply online, hand your application to the fitness manager himself and see about setting up an appt to talk "turkey" with him. the key is client retention, results, a well laid out program and accountability.
