OK I'm not quite sure how to explain this, but I'll try so here goes...
I've been cutting now for around 4-5 weeks with 'decent' (not GREAT) progress so far, and was concerned about something food wise. I'm around 220lbs (16% bodyfat) & trying to get down to 10% bodyfat. I'm following a diet to the 'T' & am measuring out all my food every day using digital kitchen scales, Tablespoons, cups etc etc.
Using a few online programs/tools I figured out that I should be cutting on round about 2600-2800 calories per day. All I did to figure out my meal sizes was I divided 2800 by 6 (the amount of meals I'm eating per day), therefore every single one of my meals contains around 470Kcals. From this, I then tried to make sure I'm getting at least 1.5g of protein per lb of bodyweight, which I managed to do. I also tried to keep my fats relatively high (0.5g per lb of bodyweight) and my carbs sort of medium-ish (1g per lb of bodyweight). That's 330g Protein per day, 220g Carbs & 110g Fat.
Now the thing is, in order to stay within my calorie & ratio range, some of my meals contain unbelievably pathetic amounts of brown rice. For example, one of my meals contains JUST 30g of Brown Rice (uncooked) and when it's cooked it just looks like crap. It's only around 3-4 Tablespoons (if that) of cooked rice, and I'm thinking "THIS is 30g of rice? surely not". Anyway, I just get on with it & eat it, even though there's hardly any rice on my plate. It's almost like I'm a beggar & I've scavenged some food out of a trash can. The protein included in this meal (chicken/turkey etc) seems absolutely fine as a portion amount, and the fats seem fine aswell (olive oil) but the carb amounts on my plate just looks ridiculously small.
Basically I'd just like to know if this is normal? Before I started cutting I was used to filling my whole plate with rice so that I had LOADS, but now with the miniscule amount of rice I'm putting on my plate, it just seems pathetic and I'm just concerned that I might not be eating enough even though I've spent hours working out my diet to the exact gram & figuring out calories etc. I guess just like in the gym I'll probably need to leave my ego at the door when it comes to eating, but like I said above I'd just like to know if having such tiny amounts of rice on your plate when it comes to cutting is normal?
Thanks guys
