My brother wants to own his own restaurant one day

He's reading all kinds of books about food and he's cooking new dishes everyday it's amazing, let me say this one more time HE'S READING!

I've never seen him get excited about anything legal like this

Is there a forum he can go to to talk to other people interested in this stuff?

ChefWide? Obiwan? Help anyone?

My partner in NYC walked with cash every week, charged armani crepesilk suits to the buiz, walked with wines and booze every week, fed everyone he knew on the planet for free... I walked before the ship sank, but it sank, fast and deep.

DO NOT open a restaurant unless it is your lifes joy. It's like a kind of torture that you have to love.

agreed
some people jump into it for ego reasons
and walk around like a pimp and all that

stay away from those people
stick with people that prove they are deligent, hard workers, have some common sense as well as business sense and frugal

unless you have a huge name and already have a huge following don't expect to make much money the first year or so

bran, sounds like your bro would like to be a chef/cook
great it can be done again with lots of hard work unless he is gifte

i am considered gifted but it is because i love cooking
but it is not all glam
it is hard work
doing things you may not enjoy
working long hard hours
sometimes working while sick (shhhhhhhhh!) or injured
being greasy and smelly (not sure what is worse smelling like fish all day or garlic)

You know that. I depthcharged a relationship by smelling like chef. LOL.

For me the clincher in terms of partner hunting is your comment about hard working and LOVING to work hard. It is a labor of love and there are so many myriad details in a restaurant as a whole there is NEVER a moment where something couldn't stand cleaning, or fixing, or straightening, or ordering... but if you love something enough you find joy in the hardships.

well i lost two wifes to my industry

and yes you never get much rest as a business owner

as i have owned my own business once
ran several kitchens
and even a whole restaurants
there are other facets
such as business laws, alcohol laws, taxes, payroll, repairs and other overheads that just keep you up at night
and if you are prone to ulcers, migraines, strokes, aneuryms, or heart attacks forget it all together!
