is it uncommon to bench press as much as close-grip?

i'm within five pounds of each other (not including diff bar weights)... what's the deal? anyone else have similar BPs and CG-BPs?

Maybe when you bench, your hands are too close, or when you close grip, your hands are too far out.

Close grip, pinky should be on the inside of the rings and elbows should be tucked to the sides.

Benching is anywhere from a thumbspan from the inside of the rings, and out. I usuially use a thumbspan and a half to emphasize my chest.

I'm the same way, I have really strong tris so my bench and close grip strength has always been pretty close

don't worry about it if you keep growing and nothing hurts. some people are just better at some excercies versus others. I always thought everything had to be a certain ratio when I was younger and that left me overtraining some muscles and neglecting others. Just do what feels right and work on improving your physique and strength....

Lord_Suston is right, everybody is different, and you'll be better at some exercises. For example, I can almost do the same amount of weight on my incline dumbell presses as my regular bench. Its funny, because big guys will destroy me on the bench press, but when we go over to do inclines, I can usually match them without any problems.

it is true that people do have some bodyparts better than others.

but ........... if your bench is the same as close grip........... there is an imbalance.......... i know.......... i have the same problem to a lesser degree.

focus on chest and shoulder training......... thats where the differnece is............. i bet when your benchpressing.......... that your sticking point is from the chest to half way up right?......... your like me........... if my chest and shoulders will get it to that halfway point........ my triceps will lock out the weight.

i hope this helps.
