Ironmind 1993 Dimas SNatch and cleans clip

Kakiachvili is smooth - squat jerk is effortless with 190kg 428lbs!
No one does it better. One of the few in the world that does a squat jerk

Another Greek lifter who doesn't go up on his toes :D

Kakiachvili's clean is just about perfect. It reminds me of Nicu Vlad, especially the not going up on toes. There was a lot of controversy in the U.S. when Dragomir became our national coach. We had some coaches that insisted that you needed to get up on your toes and others that insisted you shouldn't (included Dragomir.) Of course each side had plenty of examples so I concluded, it just didn't matter, which ever way works better for the athlete.

THANKS A TON MAN...ONCE AGAIN!!!

I really like how this guy does these. I am beginning to think that when I drop under the bar I am dropping too low. I was doing 250 for reps in training in St. Louis and I was dropping so low that the bar was bouncing...and throwing me off balance really bad.

Any chance I was dropping low? How would you change your technique if you were doing reps (7-15 reps)?

Thanks

I think for high reps it would be harder to go low to catch the bar, than it would to power clean it.I would think that if you are going that far under the bar, that you are probably going lower than you need to with that weight, but it is probably good to get used to going that low,so that you can catch heavier weights, without having to pull them so high

It sounds like the bar is "crashing down" on you. This happens when, just as you said, you drop too low for how high you pulled the bar. Ideally, in both the snatch and clean, you should catch the bar when its vertical velocity is 0. Try catching the weight in a half squat and ride it down to a full squat for those weights in between a power clean and full clean. Sounds like you're pretty strong to be pulling 250 that high. A good problem to have to work on :)

I think he means the power jerk or squat jerk don't you BFold?

In any case you only dip low enough catch the weight just before it is about to go back down when it runs out of speed. It does take timing and lots of practise. Failure to do so means a lot of extra unnecessary force on the body

Your probbaly pressing the bar too, this is somthing he doesn't do, he just pops it up with his legs and dips or sues his arms to push himself under the bar, (enough to satisfy the rules) to catch it. It is probbaly still going up for him :)

I watched the clip in frame by frame advance in a vidoe player I found on the net, EOVideo and you can see this.

I think that's the key push yourself under the bar rather than push the bar up and dipping under.

Drive the bar up with legs and then use your arms to push yourself under the bar into the dip

Also Bfold did you see that clip I posted earlier, the 1995 tape preview part 2, there is a Chinese kid doing a Powerclean and then power jerk reps with 178lbs?

he did 5 reps from memory, his form is just about perfect

anyway if you dip low, you need flexibile shoulders or else the bar will go forward and lose balance. You need to keep the bar slightly behind the head - push head forward

CCJ: You got me correct. I was talking about the jerk portion...

I'll have to get that player when I'm done training and watch all the clips again. What you said makes sense.
