I think he's about 5'7" to 5'8"

he has won 3 gold medals at the Olympics

Dimas is the man. My girlfriend is barely 5'1"...maybe...and she said that he isn't much taller than she is though.

Dimas...everything he touches turns to gold:)

Pyrros Dimas
GRESport: Weightlifting
Event: 85kg (187 lbs)
Born: October 13, 1971
Birthplace: Chimarra, Albania
Residence: Greece
Height: 5-foot-8
Weight: 187 lbs.

Breaking the tie
Pyrros Dimas entered the 1992 Barcelona Games as a relative unknown. But after one of the closest weightlifting competitions in history, he would exit as an Olympic champion. After clearing 167.5 kilograms (369.25 pounds) in the snatch, Dimas lifted 202.5kg (446.25 lbs) in the clean and jerk to reach a total of 370kg (815.5 lbs). That total would be matched by 1991 world champion Ibragim Samadov of the Unified Team and Krzysztof Siemion of Poland. Ties are typically broken by awarding the decision to the lifter who weighs the least, but Dimas and Siemion weighed exactly the same (five grams less than Samadov). Dimas was crowned champion because he had reached the total first.

Decade dominance
The surprising triumph in Barcelona began a streak of success for Dimas that continued throughout the 1990s. After claiming the 1993 and 1995 world titles, he won his second consecutive Olympic gold medal at the 1996 Atlanta Games. In 1998, after a one-year hiatus from major competition, Dimas recaptured the world title by lifting a total of 387.5kg (854.25 lbs). He also won the European Championships in 1998 and finished second at the 1999 World Championships.

Changing countries
Born in Albania, Dimas competed as Pirro Ohima until 1990. At that year's European Championships, he approached the president of Greece’s weightlifting federation and asked about moving to Greece. Dimas, whose grandparents were Greek, emigrated later that year. After winning the gold medal at the 1992 Olympics, he shouted, “For Greece!” Dimas hopes to compete at the Games through 2004, when Athens, in his adopted homeland of Greece, plays host.

He gets Army pay from Greece...but isn't really in the Army. Pretty cool huh?

He is like a God there and travels around a lot and EVERYONE loves him.

Dimas is about 5'-7" to 5'-8" and Khakisvillis is about 5'-6". I stood between them in Atlanta for the closing ceremonies in '95.
Two real powerhouses.

Ivan Chakarov of Bulgaria from the same 1993 Ironmind tape

This guy is deceptive, he's lanky, pretty tall I guess, but strong as hell for a under 91kg lifter! not sure on his exact bodyweight but it's under 200lbs!
Looks lean

He powersnatches 130kg 286lbs and 150kg 330lbs deeper, plus a 160kg squatsnatch. Then you see how flexible he is when he warms up for the Cleans and does a close Jerk grip overhead squat!!!!
Does a 160kg 352lb Powerclean and powerjerk, and then a sorta dive down 180kg 396lb powerclean and jerk!
Then he fullsquats 265kg 583lbs on his 4th set for a double at the end of this session RAW! He actually does 270kg for a double in this video, but not in this clip
Triple bodyweight....Yikes! :alien:

Notice the Bulgarian style of lifting, jumping backwards :)
Also that he pulls the bar around his knees, supposed to be bad, but he gets the weights up...

I'll post another clip of Kaki latter from the same video of him doing squat jerk, man I've yet to see anything smoother and more precise - like butter - yet he was using close to 400lbs and only dips 2-3 inches....

awesome, awesome awesome!!!!

kick ass :)

Whoa. His form didn't look so great, but that's some ridiculous weight. Power cleaning 400 without that much effort and squatting 500 something. Damn.

Do they ever dump the bar on back squats? I haven't really seen one get stuck at the bottom before with just squat stands.

I thought his form was good myself, just that the bar swings forward around the knee when he lifts off, becuase he starts the bar closer to his body.

Oly lifters always lift within themselves on assitant lifts like squats, so they never actually fail on them on purpose. They sometimes dump them when they can't be bothered re-racking it.
They just throw it off the back and jump forwards

every lifter has their own style, at this level no one has "bad form" :)
All Bulgarians jump backwards

they don't, if you get stuck at the bottom them your using a weight that's way too heavy

I have seen them dump front squats at the bottom, or middle, but not a back squat. Its easier to do that with olys squats since your upright. You just jerk it off and jump forward
