I'm out of the game my friends

you might want to consider calling up louie simmons before going through with your surgery. he has been through tons of injuries over many many years, and might be able to add some additional perspective before you commit to surgery. he leaves his number on the bottom of his articles and as i understand it from reading on the elitefts boards, he leaves this number so he can talk to real people out there, at no charge. just my 2 cents.

Sorry to hear about this man, but just lay off the weights for 6 months or a year and see what happens with recovery. I cant really say anything else, because everything I'm thinking has been said.

I'm just wondering, what do you think was the worst on your back? Running with a heavy pack in the military or deads with bad form or what?

with your general outlook, even if you are unable to continue with weights, you will find something that you will eventually excell at. no worries dude. take it easy for now and good luck!

Thaibox...

Whatever the outcome of your situation, I sincerely hope you continue to frequent the boards here. Your experience and advice has always been respected and appreciated.

I wish you the best.

lots of good replies here, i can only add that your body needs the time to heal....i think everyone here has pushed on through minor injuries, this is a serious one, but as you said you are a warrior and you will get though this

redefining your goals is never failure, it is just another path on your journey through life,

i know its frustrating, but listen to the doctors....they may not understand what it is to fight and train as a way of life, but they do have your care in their hearts, and know a lot about the way the body heals.....and once you;ve healed up i can am abolute in my belief you will come through from this with the same dedication you had before...

stay strong, your in my thoughts friend :) and i still hold your opinion and knowledge on here in the highest regard, regardless of what has or will happen

I don't know what to say besides what everyone else has already said. I am only 22 and I often think to myself what would I do with the rest of my life if I couldn't lift anymore. My entire life and all of my actions revolve around it. I guess the reason this really got to me is that I can see something like this happening to me. I although have not had any major injuries yet, often lift at times when my body is telling me not too. I guess I might have to rethink some things, but its almost impossible for me to go into the gym and not lift as heavy as I know I am or should be able too. Anyways I wish you all the best and a speedy recovery. Take care.

Paths.

Hey TB,

I just got to say that life is about new experiences and things happen for a reason.
As you know I have a strong MA background but because of injuries including premature arthritis of my elbows and hands I can no longer compete in MA.
Still I found a new challenge in my life and took up legal studies and eventually became a lawyer.
I still work out at 4am in the morning and go spar every night after work.
But I have found that I enjoy my new career; dealing with mainly criminal issues, every case I work on is a new book.

The body will fade but the mind will only grow stronger over time; what Bfold stated about losing str/size as we get older is very true.
So in the long run finding some other challenge while at the same time keeping in touch with the past is the way to go.
You seem to enjoy training so why not work as a couch for young fighters.
There is more joy in creating many new fighter than there is to be had from a one off personal win; creation is a work of art.

As for "friends and lovers" who did not stick with you because of your lifestyle, all I got to say is f-u-c-k them, they could not be your real companions in the first place.
I have been through some similar experiences, I dated several different women from my firm who did not "like" the fact that I would have to meet up with the boys for my nightly ring fights.
When it came down to it; I had my real buddies waiting for me at the ring every night.
And it was at the ring that I met my girlfriend who is not only a great piece of arse but a real friend who respects and encourages my lifestyle.

As in the movie Terminator I believe that "you will be back" in one form or the other in MA/gym.
