I'm Down

Well it looks like I'm down for at least a month. I did a 90% rupture of my soleus muscle this weekend doing speed and technique work for the truck pull.

I was just motoring right along on my 3rd run, and out of nowhere it felt like I got shot right in the calf. I went down like a stone. What absolutely blows me away is that we were training really light - just about 14,000 lbs. I must have just flexed my ankle in just the right way. Who knows how this stuff happens. Not just a month ago, I won the truck pull at an show pulling 60,000 for 110 feet and had absolutely no problems.

The good news is that since it is not a complete rupture I wont need surgery, and as soon as I am out of pain I can get back to at least some light leg work. Until then I am really going to work on my hammer curls and kickbacks. :)

Well that fucking sucks brother.

You'll be back to kicking ass in no time though.

BAD LUCK MATE.

I got a calf rupture training for the marathon 2 years ago. I had to miss the marathon and it took a full year to get back to 'normal'.

I found regular stretching and exercising light enough not to hurt it, helped a lot.

Hopefully you'll still be able to squat and dead.

Good to hear that you healed up. Not sure I needed to hear that last line though...:(

I did pull 225x5 yesterday just to see. It hurt like hell but it worked. A BW squat today, though, about brought me to tears.

Shit bro, just plain bad luck. Hope the best for you dude.

Wow I hope you heal up soon! Is that a pic of your calf there? Don't look good! However mental is most important, if you want to heal and squat and deadlift again, you will do it

When you said "Well it looks like I'm down for at least a month." it looks like that's a good estimate for regular ROM and non-calf exercises. If you can sit down and raise your leg and point and flex the calf (without any pain) then do that. If you can walk, climb stairs, whatever, then do that, it will help heal you and keep the elasticity in the calf. Anything that hurts is going to be risking making it worse. You have to exercise it within it's abilities and slowly increase that until you are able to squat and dead, etc. It may well be a year before you are dragging trucks again.
