I start a diet and it always falls through ...:(

Every Monday I vow to keep to my diet and it always falls through after 2 or 3 days - by the way I am eating right at the right time, the right amount and the right prot/carb/fat but when I see ads. on TV or when I go past a food shop and the food smells so delicious...I get cravings!!!! How am I supposed to stop them??? Especially at night?

Bodybuilding diets are so difficult to maintain especially when you socialize or when you study full time as the brain needs carbohydrates to think - most importantly during exam time!!

Does anyone have any ideas how to stop food cravings?

What do all you ladies out there do when you get hungry?

How do you trick your brain that it does not want food!!!!
:worried:

Glutamine helps me w/ carb cravings.

When you want food, try either brushing your teeth or take a 5-10 minute walk.

Try visual reinforcements like a pic of someone's physique you appreciate, or hang an article of clothing you're looking forward to wearing.

Keep a food log. Perhaps the thought of having to write down you ate that donut/chips/cookie etc. might be enough of a deterrent to stop you.

It's all about mental strength. :)

Dieting is never easy. You always ahve to deprive yourself of something and that sucks. But that said, it doesn't have to be miserable. If it is too strict, too limited, most people will not follow it. Unlike some people like to think, food is enjoyable. :)

It is not about tricking your brain, it is about good timing, smart planning and determination. Plan your meals so you never go hungry - eat every 3 hours. They are small meals. In between, drink lots of water. Try Crystal Light if plain water doesn't cut it. PLAN for things. If you know you are going to be out of the house all day, PLAN for it. Bring food, buy a cooler or insulated lunch bag and carry it around. Bring Protein Shakes, an apple, almonds.

As for determination - you have to push through cravings. You CAN control it. You just have to make that choice.

1) Find ways to prepare food so it is healthy and tastes good. Check the "Muscle Food" board here (or whatever it is called). It is right below the Diet board. There are some very talented people there who can give you tips on food preparation.

2) Schedule cheat meals. 1-2 times a week, schedule a cheat meal where you can eat something "normal" without feeling guilty. On these days, plan for it, so your caloric intake the rest of the day is lower or your activity level is higher. PLANNING is key. Do not just give in to temptation, PLAN for it. At the beginning of the week, figure out when to put these in (a party coming up? a special event? dinner with friends? etc).

3) Craving sweets? Try no-sugar jello with fat free cool-whip. It is great!

What SPECIFICALLY are you eating now? Maybe it is too little or too restrictive?

I'll give you 2 hints.

1. Most people fail diets because preparation is the key. Your food should be prepared and most of it pre cooked, portioned and packaged on the sunday before the beginning of the week. This makes sticking to the diet cake.

2. Most people in their quest drop the calories too low and make the diet too extreme. If you're starving, guess what. Your body is in survival mode and hell wil freeze over before it willingly gives up any fat. So make sure you eat enough to feel content and slowly drop the calories over the coming weeks while simoultaneusley increasing cardio. Never shock your body.

Isn't that the truth.

sigh....

When I'm losing my mind I treat myself to the best dried dates I can find, one or two of those I'm in sweet heaven and I feel content.

Jello is great also sugar free (I don't have the patience to wait or the brilliance to have it already made).

It takes 3-5 days to get into the groove and if you mess up - chalk up the the moment and go right back to the diet that day. Don't wait until tomorrow, or next monday because it never happens. You'll find more and more excuses especially when you're heart's strong but your mind is still weak.

Talk about it if you have to, get on here and let one of us talk you out of that ****** with juicy ****** and a side of ******** and **********.
