I find that statement to be ironic since most who claim to be independent or moderate don't "stand" for much at all in terms of ideas. It's more like, lick the finger, hold it up and see which way the wind is blowing today.
The freest and most powerful country in the world (the US) has a two party system because that is what works best. General conservative ideology vs General liberal ideology are the two camps most thinking Americans fall into.
Well, seeing as how most who are truly independent are rarely heard...who are you listening to? explain who you're talking about. Which independent, and which moderates...even though I didn't mention anything about moderates.
As for standing for something, being part of a corrupt system is nothing to crow about. I don't care if you do two things right, and turn your head when unethical, immoral, hypocritical behavior happens.......that's nothing to be proud of.
On my extended stays(in other countries) in the past, (and any future ones), I engage in conversations with people, and it's amazing how they can know so much about our dirty work around the world, and americans don't, or refuse to believe we could be part of such behavior.
Actually, it is downright embarrassing.
Probably not to you though huh?
And you're right, most Americans do fall into those camps.
That is a reflection on the ignorance, lack of education, immaturity, indifferent attitudes of the public. Not because they make intelligent decisions about corrupt politicians.....Most don't care about what happens to their next door neighbor, let alone how shi**y a job the government is doing......unless it affects them directly, and continously. Even then, most are too uneducated to do a damn thing about it.
