Hunting as a sport?

beastboy said:
fogg,

There is a difference between sportsman and poachers.

Sportsman=care about nature and its habitat
Poachers=destroy the reputation the Sportsman try to build

...and I do admire that quality of hunters (sportsman). definitely.

I guess it all boils down to just being an issue of semantics. My view and definition of 'sport' is different than others'. But again, I learned something new today, so it's all cool.

Evenly Matched ?

OK, Man/Woman plus side
Has the Firearm
Superior Brain ( Arguable in the woods at least )

Deer plus side
Superior vision like 10 fold
Superior sense of smell like 50 times
Superior hearing like 20 times
Superior physical abilities SPEED, AGILITY STEALTH etc.
Superior knowledge of environment It lives there 24/7
Superior survival instincts

I could probably come up with others....

No offense bro, but just like watching Roland Martin Fishing,
it is not realistic to believe what you may have seen on TV regarding Hunting

See, now that's fine if you're hunting for the food. I think it's far better for an animal (deer or whatever; no cow hunting, damn!) to spend it's life running around in the woods and then be taken out quickly, rather than just spend it's life in a filthy box, waiting for slaughter.

But... to just shoot an animal and then leave it there, or take it home and stick its head on your wall... what's the point? That's like taking pictures of someone you jumped from behind and being all proud of it.

Obviously you don't know many hunters.
Hunting, whether simply for the meat or simply for fun is the same thing.
No one shoots their game and doesn't either bring it home to eat or sells it to be eaten.

Had you actually been a gun enthusiast rather than a gun owner (who likely goes to the range twice a year), you'd know the difference.

And the reason people are going BOW lately vs Modern Gun is because its more challenging (or Sporting). And they get first crack at the deer, as Bow season opens first before the deer get spooked by all the GUN dudes smashing around in the woods..
