Hunting as a sport?

Obviously those of you that think you just climb any tree and within an hour or so a deer comes a walking up and BAM you got a deer have never been hunting likely...

You can go to a great spot or even many spots, day after day and never even SEE a deer.
Then, if and when you see him/her, you may have a total of 2-3 seconds to raise, aim and hit it before it bolts 40 mph away in a split second when it see/hears/smells your Ass..

And this is the scenario with a great Deer stand located in a heavily traveled and populated habitat area .

With hunting pressure and lack of habitat, chances go down from here that you are gonna get a deer.

I know friends that have hunted for years, and they still come home empty handed more often than not..

I don't hunt any longer because of the lack of results and the FL heat in the fall..

I beat you to it. great post anyway. lets see who can put it down now.

And if hunting with Bow or BlackPowder, the chances are even more that you are gonna not only not see a deer but when you do see it you will miss hitting it... The kill distances are very close vs Modern Gun...

I respect hunters that bring home meat year after year..

Now hunting HOGS here in FL is fun. Especially when a big male chases you up a tree..

I bow hunt for sport, and have been for 10 years now. Unless you know everything hunting, you have no right to make an opinion. Just like with anything else, if you are uneducated in a subject you cannot fully see the full picture.

I bowhunt as a sport, and yes sitting up in a tree in camo and different scents is a SPORT. You say it is easy, you are TOTALLY WRONG. There is so much more that goes into it. You need to study the land, study the deer in the area, their daily routines, times of the day when they are moving and feeding. Same as any other sport, you need a game plan, need to do your studying and practicing. You can hunt your entire life without killing a deer, I know people that have done this.

I hunt for the trophy, to hang on my wall. But the rest of the animal does not just get left to rot in the woods. I donate it.

Project Venison was established in 1991 to give hunters an outlet to help give something back to the community. Through the generous donations of deer by hunters over the years, we have helped feed thousands of needy people throughout the country.

any questions?

One more time for the EF exceptionally un educated....

Y_Lifter and Themachine01,

Okay, you have schooled me. I will admit that. I did not take into account all those other factors that you brought up.

I still believe that it isn't sportslike in the sense that the two parties aren't even close to being evenly matched, but I do appreciate and acknowledge all the technical aspects of your hunting.

As far as me not being able to have an opinion though, just because I don't know everything about hunting... then there better not be any more posts on EF about Bush and Iraq, unless they're by foreign-policy experts. :)

BTW... "uneducated" is one word, not two.

fogg,

There is a difference between sportsman and poachers.

Sportsman=care about nature and its habitat
Poachers=destroy the reputation the Sportsman try to build
