How Many Days?

I'm in a weightlifting class in school right now and the coach puts the "Power" workout up for us. We work out 5x week, and those are consecutive days.

Typical Workout Is:

Squats/ Front Squats/ Split Squats
Hang Clean/ Clean & Jerk
Push Press/ Snatch
Dips/ Close Grip Bench
Straight Bar Curl/ Pull- Ups

The "/" is just what the exercise is usually substituted on various days of the week. We usually have 5 exercises a day. I think it is a lot of work, especially since it is mostly all upper body. We do about 4-5 sets with heavy weight and low reps (4,3,2,1,1).

I'm wondering if you consider this to be overtraining and working out too much. How much do you usually do per week?

Hey man --

While that is a great mix of all the power movements, I agree that is too much -- especially since it's in consecutive days.

I do two days per week for bench press, and two days per week for squat/DL. I'll concentrate on one power movement per workout, and then follow it up with assistance exercises that isolate specific muscles involved in the movement.
