Some nerve damage in my shoulders caused some serious muscle atrophy in my upper body. I want to regain some of that muscle, but was told the nerve damage wold prevent growth? any advice?
If the nerves in an area are damages and cant force the muscle to contract then you cant cause hypertrophy to the muscle so yes nerve damage can prevent growth. On the plus side, nerves often regenerate but growth is very slow. I recall something like the rate of a MM a month or some such thing so depending on the extent of damage it can take months to years for the nerves to grow back.

Zyg is correct! I tore my right Bicep and lost total control of the arm, it took 3-4 yrs before the nerves started regenerating.
In the meantime, work the ares that don't work, never give up the harder you try the more successful you will be.

Nope ,it tore the bicep completely off my arm there was a knot on my outer the size of a golf ball (i assumed it was part of the bicep) today after much hard work you can't hardly tell it unless you was an NPC Judge or i pointed it out to you.
