House votes to cut $4 billion a year from food stamp

Is that what you think? The real truth is that as the american economy has transitioned from a high payi g manufacturing economy to a much lower paying service economy many of the jobs are paying minimum wage and have very few benefits. Why? B coz these companies you say will take care and look oit for their workers are in fact finding any way to cut costs to boost their bottom line. The easiest way is to cut employee benefits and payroll.

Well then of course we have to artificially raise the cost of US labor. I bet regulating the businesses would help improve jobs as well.

I completely agree, but the problem now is that these people vote. And elections have consequences.

Want to blame someone for generational poverty? Look no farther than the "progressive" liberals. Want to blame someone for the max exodus of the US manufacturing base? Once again it's "progressive" liberals. Want someone to blame for a lack of class mobility? Yet again it's "progressive" liberals.

But there is fairness here. The system is working as intended. People vote their rights over to an increasingly larger government, which in turn strips them of their economic opportunities, privacy rights and fundamental freedoms. Let them keep voting that way -- elections have consequences.

Thank you for bringing this up. Lets look at some of the consequences of voting the republican ticket. Back in the early 80's a movie star turned politician became president and instituted his economic priciples and called them reaganomics. How did the benefit the country? Well if you were the top 10% of income you came out great. Taxes cut in half wealth increased dramatically during this time. For everyone else? The middle class saw its biggest losses in wealth and income during his administration. High school drop out, teenage pregnancy, drug use, and poverty all increased dramatically during this period. During hos administration the national debt exponentially increased and for the first time we didnt have a balanced budget. The attitude of borrow now pay later first began and america started living on debt much like the rwst of americans. Oh and a war called the iran iraq war started. A new dictator had taken over iraq and saw its neighbor iran's vast oil reserves and wanted them for himself. His name? Saddam. Reagan approved funding to arm and equip this dictator even tho he had many human right abuses and genocide atrocities such as gassing the kurds in the north who had opposed his taking power. Sound familiar? 30 yrs later he did the same thing only this time it was kuwait and this time we didnt need him so we attacked him. Bush sr comes to the white house and being a disciple of reagan 4 more yrs of the same. National debt continued to skyrocket and middleclass wealth and income continued to decline. Social services continued to he cut just like reagan did and more and more people sunkninto poverty. Oh and a war in afganistan began between the soviets and the afghan freedom fighters. The cia went in and trained the muhjadeen frwedom fighters even tho thwy knew thew were antiamerican and radical islamists that were borderline terrorists. A certain fightwr named osama bin laden was recruited by the cia for his superior fighting and tactical skills. He was givenoney and arms and trained in guerrilla warfare and bomb making. When american popularity for the war waned the american government immediately stopped funding them and they were slaughtered by the soviets. Eventually like in vietnam the piblic support for the war forced the soviets home. The afghan fightwrs never forgot the betrayal and vowed revenge. Sound familiar? 25 yrs later two planes with osama trained terrorists slammed two fully loaded and fueled planes into the world trade center and another into the pentagon and a third just barely avoided being sent to the white house. Along comes bush jr who couldnt even run a baseball team and had to be bailed out by the saudi royal family ensuring that he was forever indebted to them. He starts a war under trumped up charges against the wishes of the international community. The cia knew he didnt have weapons of mass destruction. Everyone knew it. It was done so halliburton and other arms suppliers could make trillions of dollars from government contracts. Cheney was the former ceo of halliburton and saw to it that they received no bid contracts thereby bypassing government safeguards. $100 dollar hammers? $ 50 toilet seats? I can go to any hardware store in america and buy them for much much less. So now many trillions of dollars and thousands of american lives later we are still at war although according to bush it ended many yrs ago. I cant tell my brother just did two combat tours there in the last three years. Think aboit what the consequences these actions will have im future generations to come. Dont come accusing liberals of having unwanted consequences. We only want for people to be given the chance to succeed against the odda they were dealt in life.. if that is so hard for u to conceive then so be it continue to downgrade people and tell them its all your fault. Me i have compassion and a soul and my moral character says that i should help my fellow man.

1) Paragraphs are your friend.

2) Concise sentences are your friend.

3) No one in their right mind would read that ramble above.

Here on EF, that's called: "too long; didn't read" or "tl;dr"

Yup. It is a starter wage to help transition people into the workforce.

But our newest liberal ideologue here seems to think that $7.25 is a magical level where if we lower it, everyone's wages will shrink. Yet if we raise it, peoples' wages won't bump-up an we'll all live happily ever after.

I can't believe how mean-spirited he is either. He called $50,000/year a "unnecessary and unsustainable" level. How can someone support a spouse, raise four children, own a home, purchase the proper nutrition, put all those children through college and save for retirement at only $50,000 per year?

I made 24k a year my first year here and had to support myself and my mom, guess how I lived and got by? I lived within my fucking means, that's how, I didn't pay cable or internet and lived in a small appartment, if I needed to go online I walked to the clubhouse that had free wifi, I took the bus and walked, a lot, in 90+ weather, I also bought a $20 tracfone cel for which i paid $10 a month.

No flat screens, no gaming console, no new electronics, few furniture was from goodwill or yard sales, yard sales were my only "weekend fun", I also saved up 300 bucks to open a secured CC to start building credit, it was hard but I knew it would pay off, it did.

People get the 200 buck phone with 2 yr contract and 80 bucks a month, 400 car pmt, 2000 internet and HBO cable pack, bunch of high interest store CC, they eat out multiple times a week, they do NOT live within they means because "I deserve these things" Fuck sakes

I love hearing stories like that, because it means we still have a chance here in the US. That's how the system is supposed to work.
