Help with diet

New to all of this but Im needing advice on a diet. I used to be a runner so i was always a fit person, but now in college i have gained about 30 pounds mostly from the beer drinking. Im 6'1 179 pounds right now. Im looking to tone and gain some mass but i also need to lose the gut. So should i diet and lose the weight first then bulk or the reverse? Thanks for any help

Cut back on the beer drinking first or start drinking low carb beer !. Mate you can read heaps in the sticky threads here but what you want to be aiming for is a High Protein/Low Carb/Low Fat diet. If you incorporate some weight lifting with good cardio 3-4 times a week you will loose the pounds and start to form muscle.
