Fucking sick. Did some standing presses and I love the way the fat grip distributes the weight. They pumped the shit out of my forearms too.

Did some pinwheel curls and the 30lbers felt like 60s.

I couldn't pull 225 off the ground double overhand though. Prolly gonna work on some double overhand holds at the end of my DL work.

They are very cool and highly recommended.

I think you will be humbled. I can hook 405 for 5 and I couldn't get 225 past my knees without dropping it. My grip was already fatigued though.

i been thinking about getting these

how would u trian with them?

i mean im deadlifting 500-600, so think it be hard holding that with fat grips ahahahaha

I'm mainly gonna use them for OHP, curls, and tricep extensions. Maybe some benching too. The fat grip distributes the weight in a way where extension and presses will be less taxing on the elbows while working the forearm to a larger degree.

I doubt they will add much to your DL training. Maybe some timed holds with 50% of your 1RM for extra grip work. If you're ripping 600 from the floor without straps you already have a solid grip.

i was more interested in using them to build bigger forearms rather then worry about my grip

but they would be good for curls, extensions and presses liek you

no way i could ever train back with them

mite need to look into them

I totally agree with the back training. Maybe some chins, but I highly doubt I will ever use them for rows or deads. I'm really looking forward to trying some extensions with the fat gripz. I usually reach a point in training that my elbows can't take any more added weight, but my tris can definitely move it.

Interesting. I wouldn't mind giving those a shot. I'll have to put them on my "want" list. LOL

The gap on the inside is as wide as an olympic bar so they fit snug.

because it forces your hands open more than a normal olympic bar, so your hands, fingers and forearms have to work harder to hold onto the bar.

Nice sandals SL

doesnt that mean you spend more energy and strength on your grip, so less strength will be translated on the actual lift - i.e. you wont be able to lift as heavy??

yep, thats why southernlord and thatbloke said they wouldnt use them for the whole back workou because it would limit their poundages too much. Southernlord said he can double overhand pull 405 with a hook grip but had trouble pulling 225 with the fatter grip. So yeah you wouldnt use them for the whole of your workout but you could use them for presses as it wouldnt limit the weight much and you could use them for warmup sets and stuff for deads. Or do static holds at the end with them on to work on grip. Or SL mensioned using them for curls.

Good post Em

Another thing is using them to trick your cns. Take the bench for example. Do some warm up sets wth ths fat grip, and then take the grips off. That should trick your cns and give a nice quick increase of strength. I haven't done this yet, but it does sound legit on paper.

The fat grip also distributes the weight differently in your hands. This effects your elbows and shoulders when pressing. I did standing OHP presses with them yesterday and it took no weight off of what I would typically lift. It did feel really good on my shoulders and I can see how it would help those with shoulder problems.

Extensions too. I get up to about 100 pounds before my elbows kill. I'm hoping the fat grip will allow me to pile on more weight while taking the stress off my elbows.

I bet using them for a while on bench then going back to the thin bar would really help squeeze the shit out of the bar too and help "row" the bar down to your chest more to help get the lats working harder. Good for PLers...

You should try using them on the smith machine powercleans too that would be cool.

I don't know if they're worth the money tbh...on paper, the applications look numerous, but when you actually try it out, how would you know if you are really benefiting from them....how is that measurable?

Its measurable simply by your grip and hold strength.

Think about this. You can hold a 405 bar double overhand, can you do that with an 3" axle and the same weight? Probably not as the bar would just roll out of your hands. Train with fat things and this wont happen. Not only will grip improve, but so will wrist strength.

Next time you watch a strongman comp, take a close look at the handles on a lot of the apparatus. They're fat. Fat makes it harder.

I def. wouldnt mind my wrist strength improving...i have puny wrists

New Innovative Ways to Use Your Fat Gripz
Lol take a look at the above article, new ways to use your fat grips!
Mine came in today, along with some bands and a squat hoodie:D

They feel like great quality, really sturdy and nice. The only thing is they do seem like they will be a little hard to get on to dumbells and shit. I'm gonna try to max double overhand deadlift with them tomorrow, will post a vid:)

I had zero issues putting them on or taking them off of bars or DBs. The hold the BB snugly :)

They are the shit I've been using them for like 6-8 months and My grip strength is insane.

I pulled 255 for 1 double overhand today with the fat gripz on. However I couldn't even get it off the floor with 275. When I tried to do a 5 rep set with 225 afterwards I couldn't even do one lol, these really tired out my grip. I'm going to do static holds with them once a week. I also did btn press for the first time and used the grips, they felt great and really put me in a good pressing position. Didn't get to take a video of pulling with them though.

i would be interested to see if they give you any additional forearm size too...

I finished up my workout today with some BB Curls and overhead ez bar extensions. Holy fucking forearm/bicep pump batman. The Fat Gripz crushed my grip and pumped me up big time. 80 pounds for 12 was my limit set and it felt way heavier than 80 pounds.

The gripz took all the stress off of my elbows during the extensions. It's clear to me that these things are for real. I'm looking forward to the massive fucking forearms I'll have after a few months of training with these.

When looking at building muscle or training under different loads, things like fat grips and different shaped bars (cambered, SS, etc...) can allow you to train hard yet under a different load. Imagine being able to get the same growth and stimulation out of a little less weight? Could be good to give your joints a break.

I know that pressing (and and all) with a thick bar is much easier on my shoulders and elbows.

Interesting proposition.

I always try to go from lifting heavy to medium weight and then back up to heavier weights...

A lot of guys will use a SS bar because it is harder. They can work just as hard but end up using less weight because it is a more difficult movement to squat/gm. Try doing all your bench for a day with a football bar/parallel grip bar. You are still going to stimulate growth and work hard but different muscles will be recruited (possibly giving some small nagging injuries 1 week of rest) and you will still grow.

Squat to a lower box, means you will work harder and use less weight at the same time.

So many ways to skin a cat, especially when your body needs just a week or two of a change/break without a change of intensity.

Good to know...I'll def. try to switch some things up....especially the lower box squats

Ok. I've been training with these for a month now. I'm only using them for standing presses and BB curls. My upperbody has grown quite a bit and my grip strength is getting ridiculous.

I hit weighted pull ups for 3 sets of 8 with 25 pounds today and i could have literally hung from the bar forever. This was the first time in a looooong time doing any weighted pull ups. They felt great. For the first time my back strength is the limiting factor with these.

My standing presses are improving every session. The fat grip makes this movement feel so natural. Absolutely zero shoulder or elbow discomfort.

I do not think I will ever train without these again. Very wise investment :D

I talked to my friend who's an anatmy major and he said these grips have no effect on your training and it makes no sense that a wider grip would help protect your joints

Hmmm. I suggest you try them. If anything try some curls with a towel wrapped around the bar. If your forearms don't swell up something is wrong with you lol

My arms have grown quite a bit, but I've also put close to 20 pounds on since getting back into the gym. Muscle memory is great, but the added grip strength I'm attributing to the gripz. Even with the standing presses my forearms/bis catch a pump.

I've only gotten a chance to use them on btn presses every week, cause I haven't done curls in a long time lol! They are great for the presses they really feel good. Regardless of what your anatomy friend said alc how does it not make sense that if you grip a wider bar your grip strength will get better????

Have you considered that all this added strength and weight is because you'r back in the gym and everything including diet is in check.

Maybe the fat grips have nothing to do with it?

i said nothing about grip strength. i was talking about protecting the joints.

Oh sure bro. The added weight gain has definitely attributed to added strength and vice versa. My deads have gone from 315x5 to 455x5 in six weeks lol. Drug free btw :) This kind of strength gain makes you big and strong all over.

From the vascularity and the growth of my forearms I do feel the fat gripz are adding to the equation. This added strength I feel is from a combination of all the rowing and DLing I've been doing in addition to using the fat gripz. It would be foolish for me to say it's only from the gripz.

You can ask any strength athlete their thoughts on fat bar training and they will tell you the same as me. It is an added stimulus that will increase grip and upperbody strength and size.

You can believe who/what you want :D

If you look back at his post most of it is about grip strength and forearm size, and there is one part about how on ohp it helps put you into a more natural position which makes total sense.

It makes some sense that a wider grip would help grip strength...

It makes no sense that it will protect your joints though...your elbows will be stressed regardless of how fat or narrow your grip is IMO

Oh the part about helping the joints is not so much how wide the grip is but more the way the weight shifts over your elbow joints...can't really explain that to be honest....but I think it aligns the weight more in a straight path with your forearms when you use an axle bar or fat gripz

I've found the fat grips to be very helpful in reducing the stress on the elbows as well. I was unable to perform dips and skull crushers for months before he use of the fat grips. It could be just a coincidence, but I'm virtually pain free in both elbows.
