That's the way it is at my gym. What gives?
Nothing against gay men, but at my gym, which is practically a disco, but with serious gym equipment (it's huge) - the gay guys are seriously ripped, and some of them are pretty damn big (although most have legs like pencils), and they aren't very strong. Some don't even look like they're busting a sweat while they work out. Hey, to each there own, but it seems to work!
The straight guys stand out like a sore thumb, they're much fatter and much less developed - I'm guilty of this as well. Granted, some of these guys lift with some really bad form, but many of us don't and we don't seem to be enjoying the same results. EXCEPT, I tend to be much stronger than many of these guys using same tempo, form, etc. So I guess that's good, but I'd rather look better to tell you the truth.
So, what's the story? Is all this lift heavy stuff a bunch of crap? rock climbers that can do one-arm pull ups for reps are pretty damn strong, but they sure aren't that big.
I know there is some evidence that perhaps muscle hyperplasia occurs in humans with lighter-weight / higher rep lifting. (Take cyclists for example). If this is true, it seems that it might be superior to the old addage of lift heavy to get big - juice free, that is.
By the way - I tend to go 6-10 reps super-intense, 3 days a week split. Just curious as to your thoughts, so please no flames - I'm not trying to offend anyone.
