You should try skipping now, I would like to say it works, however, it is too early to tell, but then 1 million boxers can't be wrong LOL. My tummy and butt giggle a little too much but big shirt and pants takes care of that problem. LOL.

Hope your studies go great!

Yup, gotta pick up all the toys and laundry and stuff. I still have to clean somethings, cause she would be here for like 10 hours if I didn't LOL. But my friend has her clean and she said she was amazing, even cleaned inside her lights. However, she only has 2 really small children so, I am sure that she won't be getting to the lights in my house.

Thanks, I am trying to be consistent with my weights now and not try do to much at once cause I find I can't finish my reps especially supersetting them, however, I am finding bumping them up 2 to 5 pounds over the month it just keeps on increasing.

two more weeks and I think I may have take some progress pics

I hope at least 5 pounds should drop off soon or it better soon! if you know what I mean! I am curious though to get my BF done cause that could be the reason why, or I might be grasping at straws here LOL

Bring the fish to bang over my head too LOL. We should make a short movie about the the sledgehammering of the scale LOL.

Thanks everyone, it's sooooo hard, yup I am whinning and I will quit, I know, she still has me on 2400 calories and building muscle even though I am supersetting? and there has been small improvements here and there. But my hubbys pants!!! come on now be honest that would drive anyone mad. LOL oops there I go whining again hee hee.

So went to the doc about my back, no injection today, I am going for yet another MRI, this time on my lower back (roll eyes smilie) I asked why they just didn't do that in the first place. This will be the third MRI this year. Anyways, at least they are trying to help me. I am now officially not allowed to run right now until they find out what is wrong, good thing I bought a treadmill, they told me to do the eliptical. As far as weight training, full steam ahead cause it is the best thing for me, I just have to have some exercises modified.

SBT... thanks for the comps about my workout, it does look good doesn't it LMAO, I didn't get to do it today, my back is killing me.

Won no money, but had a great time. Yup, said I was going to be good, ended up taking a cab home, good thing about where I live, everything is really close so it didn't cost a lot.

Well, no exercising until monday, but I think we are putting the lights up tomorrow.

Just came back from a day in the mountains, beautiful and relaxing, blizzard on the way home, but worth the drive!

I've always liked the Bears, and being from New York made for an interesting night last night....

How is your back? Are you I can't imagine that all your jumping rope helps it any... Or hanging christmas lights, either.... :p

Anyway, feel better

I am at a loss already as to what to do at this point. I bought a treadmill and now I have been told by several doctors (got 3rd and 4th opinions) that I can't run. I forgot to mention the skipping rope, but yup I am pretty sure that isn't too good anymore. My only hope at this point is an eliptical and that is at the gym which I am unable to access at this point. My hubby and I have to try sell the treadmill and purchase an eliptical.

Just frustrated at this moment, however, everything is fixable it will just take some time to get things organized again.

What's the deal with the back issue and not running or skipping? I remember back problems but can't find (since I looked SO HARD) where it started hurting again or becoming a problem.

Ya you don't wanna phuck with the back.. how did skipping feel today on it?
Does the doc tell you specifically pinpoint problems saying "if you dont stop *this* you will hurt *that* permanently..." etc. Other than "stop b/c I say so"...

Oh it has always been a problem, just becomes more of an issue when I drive long distances, pick up heavy things, shovel the snow, vacuum, wash the floor, sleeping at night, or do things the wrong way. LOL

My family doctor thinks it is anglo spongolitis (spelling) type of arthitis in your back. They found something on my lower spine and SI joints during a bone scan. However, the arthritis specialist wants to make sure because the scan didn't specifically say that is what it was, so he is sending me for another MRI however this time on my lower back.

He said the running and skipping are pounding on my back or somehting like that and it probably isn't a good idea until they find out specifically what it is.

I don't know if the skipping did anything, it was sore before, it usually gets worse in the evening so I guess we will see. I am going to keep on skipping cause other than that I don't know what other cardio to do at home, I guess I could get my old aerobics tapes out again LOL.

However I am going to really make sure I do my lunges and squats accuratley. Treil made a post about travelling lunges and that is actually when my back started hurting again, was right after I had done some and at the time I was taking really small steps and leaning forward. (girls were in the basement with me trying to copy so I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing) LOL

Oh totally agree on form 110% and this "He said the running and skipping are pounding on my back or somehting like that and it probably isn't a good idea until they find out specifically what it is."

;) Thanks for clarifying, you worry me sometimes Super Mom ;)

I feel bad you went and tried to find the back issue thing! and yup my back is killing me now.

Can you suggest any cardio that won't hurt my back for now that doesn't involve equipment???

don't you worry about little o me, I have had to learn the hard way to take breaks when I need them! but thank you

Oh stop it lol no reason to feel bad, I try not to skim over things just wanted to make sure since my cals are way too low and Im a crabass today.

Plyo work usually involves some impact so that's out. Other than the elliptical & swimming, maybe walking on an incline tread or peddling a stationary bike, you can try to do circuit workouts and get your HR up that way. Maybe pilates although it's low(er) impact. I know you said no machines, Im just listing things out.

Doc said incline treadmill out. The reason for the whole no machines is just until I get get a new one, cause I won't be able to make it to the gym for awhile. Swimming is a good one, however, I hate it and to get to do it everyday would be hard since I can't even get to a gym right now. So there are my excuses LOL.

Swimming **is** a good one. Yoga, Pilates. Are you still looking for an elliptical machine? How would a row machine work w/your back?

We aren't sure at this point what to buy, my hubby suggested a bike, but I like the idea of the eliptical. I love the row machine but I don't know if that would be ok for the back.

Yoga/Pilates and I don't get along very well LOL

so, no more trainer for me, going to try things on my own, well with some help (thanks bunny  ) and do a modified Shadow plan considering I can't get to the gym. Calories probably will be adjusted depending on the outcome of weight loss or weight gain and the restricted cardio right now.

food ratio:1800 calories 40/30/30 (as best I can :) )

Hey super mom.... stay strong! things will work themselves out and you'll end up better than ever before (that bunny knows what she's talkin' about).

I like the elliptical better than the bike, too. Some people find it hard to balance on them though. Row sounds fun. My mom has one & enjoys it.

And take care of that back!

Thank you, I did slip last month, but only had like half of one, however, dumb thing to do, had to go through all the stupid cravings things again so I will say it has almost been a month.

I am still proud of myself considering, I called last month "my this is the reason you don't smoke anymore slip up" LOL

But I am reaping the benefits from not smoking in my cardio BIG time, and I love the fact that I don't smell anymore! LOL

Thanks

dats what I did before thanksgiving, becareful carbing up, remember my picture! LOL Yahoo for time off!

Hey I figured out the TUT and triple drop set!!! Strangely enough the workout felt great on my back, almost like it was stretching it, not sure what it is going to feel like later on, but what the hell it is already sore so whatcha going to do. I took it easy on the pounds today to get into the routine of things. Short workout though, not used to that!

Let my oldest daughter go on the treadmill today with me right behind her. I am now hiding the key but she has been begging me to try.

Took the dog to the vet he was well behaved, to bad my youngest wasn't LOL.

off to study and clean house a bit, cleaning ladies don't come back till the 21st.

Today was supposed to be back (NOT going to happen)

It has been officially a week since the start of my back pain, it usually goes away in a couple of days, however I think due to the drive to the mountains, and lack of sleep, it may take longer. I dunnno, so....

TO DO!
- parent teacher interview for older son (they don't get report cards this term they get social and emotional progress reports, what the fuck is that! They say that in order for the children to succeed academically that their social and emotional aspects need to built first. So what they stop in december and are ready to face the rest of the year. I am going to ask the teacher if their computers are down and if that is why they came up with this lame idea.
- play gym with girls/library and make christmas cards

Not sure what the deal with emotional progress reports. Daisy is a teacher (if I remember correctly), maybe she would know.

I've heard those long car drives can be bad for backs. Take care of yoself.
Just finished reading an article in a magazine about education. It refers to U.S. curriculae, but it may be similar. the gist of the article was that, decades ago girls were behind boys academmically due to social responsibilities. So, they tailored curriculum to allow girls to excel, but in the meantime, those same guidlines marginalized boys. Now boys are actually punished for acting like boys, and girls are excelling. The boys are becoming resentful & disruptive because they're being treated like idiots, instead of ;itt;e boys. In essence they are being punished for being male.

As it should be..... LOL just joking! LMAO! I am in a goofy mood today, must be no sleep, hmmmm, coffee, coffee, coffee.

I feel bad cause his emotional report was excellent with the exception of not bringing his reading log or agenda home which really isn't got to do with emotional but we have been harping on him since september so he got in trouble for that. But I made up for it the next day. Told him if he brings those items home and gets everything done he can play on the computer for an hour, however if he doesn't he goes to bed a 1/2 hour early, no computer and one more chore added on. So it is really working well, he forgot it again yesterday LOL. (pulling my hair out) something so simple and for easy marks and he just doesn't care. But in the grand scheme of things, I really don't either but it is the only thing I can harp on him about cause he is an A+ student, soooo I can't let him get off too easy, he needs to have some accountability for something. any whoo rambling.....

When my daughter was in school, I didn't really care how smart she was. I cared how much she tried. She is hella smart, just, through those years, had no drive. Wonder where she got that from. :verygood: Drove my wife nuts, but I understood her.

We feel the same, especially since our other son is autistic. We tell them no matter what mark they get as long as they try and we know they tried there best that is all that matters. Fortunately and unfortunately my oldest son doesn't have to study really hard to get it. He DID NOT get this from me, I constantly struggled in school.

Teacher meeting went almost too well, scary, actually (thank god)my kids are amazing, I cried the whole way home, I am so proud of my baby!

Next week is my younger sons and well.... though he doesn't get straight A's with what he has been dealt with I always bawl, they didn't even think he would ever talk cause he didn't when he was three. He not only talks now but was doing division and multiplication in grade 2. The little bugger has the most determination of any child I have ever seen, he doesn't comprehend the way most people do, but then I understand him soooo LOL

No workout today, mother in law came over and we continued to make christmas cards, made nanimo bars with the girls and I ROCK, didn't have one! Diet is solid and the exercise will come again one day arrrr LOL.

Back is extremely sore, going to make an appointment with the doctor tomorrow, I can barely walk now and this is the fourth set of anti-inflammatories they have prescribed for me and well they aren't working either.

I guess that's what being a parent is all about. Extremely aggravating one moment & a source of immense pride the next. Glad to hear it went well.
One thing I've learned from other parents with challenged kids. Never believe the Doctors, when it comes to limitations, physical, or mental. If you push the child, as you would a regular child, but within reason, they will respond. And depending on their desire, they may even excel.
I have a cousin with Downs syndrome. Her parents were told to institutionalize her, because she wouldn't live into adulthood & she would require too much care. They kept her home, & while she never became independant, she has had a full & rewarding life, for all concerned. She's in her 40's now. :)

Good going on the treat denial. Keep it up. :) :jump: .

Back pain, back pain, back pain... probably the number 1 complaint I see...
Ankylosing spondylitis

-Daily bending, twisting, and gentle range of motion exercises help prevent postural deformities and restriction of joint range of motion.
In a flare up I know because I have this... almost everything is out the window and this is about all I can do. Make sure as soon as you get up to do 15-20 minutes of some light stretching. There is a yoga DVD series that has a AM and PM component that's only 30 minutes in length that is very gentle and could help to get the blood moving and get some flexibility back into your back and SI joints.

-Work on some physical therapy (Which I am suprised they have not sent you to one?!?!) Supermans, opposite hand and leg extensions, back extensions (carefully), breathing and bending motions. All of that helps to increase the limited flexibility you'll encounter and help prevent further progression of the disease.

-Breathing exercises are recommended to prevent chest wall immobility.

-Good sleeping posture with a small pillow on a firm mattress in the supine (Lying on back) position. Best to lay on your back and elevate your knees on a pillow to take the stress off the low back. In this position it's also nice to lay a heating pad under the SI jointas and low back.

-None of the NSAID's really help me either. The only thing that helps:
MASSAGE, heat, sleeping on my back (ALWAYS) with a good pillow (not one making my head 10 feet off the bed..) more or less just a neck support. People don't need pillows... You can roll a towel up and stick it under your neck with the back of the head on the bed, and that is the best position for your head and neck anyway. MOBILITY, STRETCHING, FLEXIBILITY are all key! You have to move. If you don't the spine can fuse and you can lose ROM. All of that stuff is a requirement in my life, it's not an option to miss it, because then you end up like me 8 years' ago not walking for a week because the SI joints lockeed up. Hot baths with epsom salt works well, or just letting the hot water from a shower pound on it! They have those Shiatsu chair massagers you just throw over a chair ($100). I have one on my desk chair and whenever I feel pain (every day) I sit on it and if I can't get a massage done you can always take a hot bath and plop on that. That way the muscles are nice and warmed up and more pliable and easier to give with the fake shiatsu guy.

-Things that aggravate mine are some ab exercises!! Try to stick with simple ab stuff. Like crunches, side crunches, I prefer stuff on the ball because you add that extra instability component.

-It is important no matter what exercise you are doing the ABS have to be tight to support the spine, HAVE to. If you have to drop weight to focus on that then do it for your physical health in the long run.

-Just be cautious on any spine loaded exercise as you are more prone for fractures. That's why I limbo with the squat rack... Want to do it because I know the huge benefits in muscle development, but know what it can also do to me.

O.k. my 2 cents over...

Thank you so much for taking the time to write that out, I am going to seriously cry. We have wondered the same as to why no one at this point has recommended physical therapy and my insurance won't pay for it until a doctor tells them.

The accupucture guy told me absolutely no heat, however, even my husband knows that makes my back feel better so no I AM going back to it. It really hit a cord when I read about the shower cause that is what I look forward to!

and again, yup the ab exercises, my trainer FINALLY the last time I was with her (which I am no longer using her) showed me proper techniques for the abs, however, I still can't use the ball, that really hurts still.

I love epsom salt, but only had used them after each pregancy, I will definitely use them again.

and finally yup, that is where they said the problem was in the SI joints and a spot on my lower spine.

YOU ROCK GIRL!

Going to go to walmart today and see if I can pick up some stretching/yoga type DVD's. Treilin, I HATE yoga LOL, but I am willing to try anything and everything at this point.

My workout will consist of stretching, a hot bath.

You know you don't know how much you appreciate walking/standing/sitting/lying down until you can't do it without friggin pain.

Scale 146 (bye bye muscle) :worried:

My daughter woke up this morning and told her daddy that she just wanted to make mommy feel better today. She wants to go to the play gym again today, however, mommy has to tell her no, arrrrr. Going to try make it up to her and bake some cookies with her.

Have a great weekend everyone

Check PM

You know depends on the yoga dvd I'll look up what I have at home later and I'll type it up for you which ones I like. Don't go with Denise Austins they are good but are to fast for what you need. I love the Gaiam produced Yoga dvd's. You need slow stretching breathing combination techniques. If you can learn how to breathe into the sore areas you will be shocked how the pain can go away. You have to connect your mind to the area and breathe into it... Most end in a 5-10 minute relaxation. I thought at first no way can I lay on a floor for that period my back was tight I couldn't breathe it was sooo uncomfortable. Let all that go... Really relax and just do whatever they say and I have never not been pain free once I finished that. Even so relaxed I fell asleep quite a number of times. Again do what you can do at the time, and don't push it! Yoga is going to be your best friend!
Do not say goodbye to the muscle... You kidding? You will not be in this stage forever! Believe me... If you would have told me I would be deadlifting what I do 8 years' ago I would have laughed and said "right... It's all I can do to get out of bed or walk."
I was not able to do pilates for quite some time.. ESPECIALLY during a flare up there is NO way. BUT after the flare up is gone pilates is also excellent!

I PM'd you about googling Migun tables :
http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=14654694&BRD=2605&PAG=461&dept_id=523946&rfi=6

Just a quick article I found.... When I have enough money one day I'm getting one of those!!!! Until then the shiatsu chair thing will have to do.

Oh and another side effect of that disorder is depression... Don't fall trapt to it Everything is smiles :)

Pretty much is the stage I am at right now, thank goodness for my cleaning ladies who are coming next week. The house is getting so messy cause bending over sucks and picking up the girls isn't helping, even when they ly down on me I am almost crying. I don't even know what a good sleep is anymore.

Been down the depression road. When I was pregnaunt I had to stop working cause my back was so bad, I used to work with special needs children and restraining was a daily event. I found exercising after my babies were born and it helped so much with the depression and back that is bugs me now really bad when I can't.

But enough complaining, I have some tools now to work on. The whole relaxing won't come now until the girls go to bed LOL.

Thank you so much, going to check my pm's right now

So how's it going what did you find?
O.k. my favorite is the Total Yoga DVD with Tracey Rich and Ganga White produced by Living Arts. It is an hour long. I never was able to do the full hour at first but worked up to it and felt like a million dollars when I finally was able to complete it. I have had it for almost 8 years' now. The other two I have I would recommend that are easier and shorter are the A.M. & P.M. stretch by Gaiam and Healing Yoga for common conditions by Anchor Bay's.

Other ones I have that I like are Denise Austin's Pilates, Power Yoga Plus, fat-blasting Yoga, and the Windsor Pilates series.

Pilates is more core strengthening and if I hadn't have done the yoga I wouldn't have been able to do half of the pilates work because my back would not allow it. It is good to add in once the flare up goes away. I did yoga every day and skimmed down to 5 days, then 3 days with 2 days of pilates. In the end you have to think you are still doing something for your health and bettering yourself!

I couldn't go anywhere today, my hubby took the van keys by mistake to work, but it is just as well, I am practically crawling now, I can't get into my doctor until thursday.

My hubby was soo sweet this evening, he got home and asked all that you had suggested and he hooked up the heating pad for me and vacuumed, made supper, wants me to go tomorrow for the yoga DVD and book a massage.

I took two extra strength robaxicet and I know you shouldn't but having some rum and coke with it. (considering it my cheat for the week). However, the pain isn't even close to being gone, now I am just really tired, which is good.

I wrote down the names of the Yoga! and will be definitely going out tomorrow to get them. I would hug and kiss you if I could.

back is a little better today, though the more I move, well.....

Hubby massaged my back yesterday himself and I think it may also have helped, have the van keys today so going out to get those tapes, I hope.

Monday, I am kicking my hubby's butt to the gym, it has been about a month since he has gone and that is NOT good, given some stress we have both been under this week he NEEDS to go and get some aggression out. He almost broke the van's back window trying to change a tire cause he got the back door stuck on the garage door (long story) but I had to walk away cause I was laughing so hard. Poor guy, really!

Monday as well, I am going to try get back at it, with the yoga in the early morning and then a workout.

Thanks everyone for your help! I am happy to see everyone has my back LOL

Just take it easy!!!

thanks hidn and mermaid, after a talk with Trelin and sbt (hugs and kisses you guys) I put some ice and then stretched (didn't get to the heat) on my back tonight after a very trying weekend of literally crawling around and it has helped a lot I am not crawling around on all fours tonight, much to husbands dismay (LOL, joke). Calling a deep massage therapist tomorrow and going to see the doctor on thursday again.

I hope to get this rectified by this weekend I have a huge family gathering to drive 3 hours to this weekend and if it is not cleared I can't go. Which means I would have the weekend to myself because hubby will have to take the kids, hmmm. My oldest daughter was acting up before bed tonight LOL.

I won't be doing any exercising again tomorrow, just some christmas baking, card making and studying, and a quick stop to the party store also shopping on line for some new living room furniture. I just found out I am having 25 people over for Christmas dinner, I am really excited about it, but I have to really get organized.

Yup, all the really important, brain boggling things accomplished today LOL..... baked 3 dozen cookies, picked out a living room set, decorated the girls room all christmasy and finished three Christmas cards.

Should of put the wash away, tidied up and studied, but hey the days not over yet and the cleaning ladies are coming tomorrow and my back is killing me now, I am going to ice ice ice it, supposed to go shopping not going to happen and in the mist of everything today, I sort of forgot to eat. I am thinking I should go do that right now, actually it is almost time for supper, better get that started.

Sorry to hear about your back, I am glad it is easing off!

I know, but when you have 4 kids, who are asking to do things with you, it is HARD. Especially when your daughters are 2, and 4. The trip to family christmas celebration is looking bleak. However, hubby cleaned up a bit yesterday and I was able to get some studying in.

It is getting a bit better as long as I don't bend down, twist or walk to much or sit to much LOL.

Yeah I bet, but you need 2 take care of yourself so when they get older and they have children you can play with your grand-kids! I know your like me... List a mile long and always 50,000 things to get done and not enough hours in the day.. Instead of that country song "Not enough Hours in the night" Well that either.... Just try and keep any eye on yourself looking out for your well-being as well!
