after learning proper bench form, i'm afraid to put elbows out on DB press. is it ok to use this form since they're DB's and not BB's?

also, what do you guys think about subbing them with BB benching in the 5x5 routine?

Good questions jeremys, I was gonna ask these along with, incline flyes are they any good in a chest routine? Hope you don't mind me asking a question in your thread. I DB bench with my elbows out though, I don't know if I do them wrong because I don't feel much when I do them, but my chest is sore now. Not sure if its from the DB bench or the rest of my chest routine. I want to make two chest workout routines and switch them up every other week cause there are many good chest exercises out there. What does anyone think of that?

EDIT:http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/PectoralSternal/DBBenchPress.html

I do it like that ^

by switching them up, they probably wont stop working for a while.

this leads me to another question. for incline work, just how steep is the incline? 45 degrees? 30? whenever i do anything incline, the angle seems very awkward and dangerous

I've heard 20-30 degree's for incline work, I set it for what feels comfortable, as at my gym I can't tell.

the only problem as far as I know with an elbows out bench is that it has more shoulder rotation so it i sharder on your rotator cuffs, I think it would be ok to do that as long as you don't do it too often, and by the way 20-30 degrees is just fine for incline work

I don't think it's a big deal, elbows out and all, until you feel strain. The slightest pang, maybe try to go inner a little more. But for now, try what's comfortable for you. As for the incline, probably 20-30 degrees. But again, whatever you feel fit.

When I do inclines I put the incline as low as the incline bench will go... I think its between 20-30 degrees as well...
