First squats workout

I just did my first squats this morning! It felt weird, but I'm pumped to finally be doing them, since I avoided them for years due to my bad lower back.

I just did the bar by itself for a couple sets to try to get used to it, then I figured I'd do a light weight while I try to get my form down. So I just used 95 lbs... after 5 more sets my legs were shaking on the way up. Crazy. You guys all say leg press doesn't transfer to squats, and that's damn right, cause I can do 5 plates on each side for leg press.

I did feel the squats in my lower back a bit, but I'm hoping it's just cause my lower back is a bit weak. I really concentrated on keeping my feet flat and my back straight and my knees behind my toes.
 
awesome man!! You'll scare yourself with how fast those 95s turn into 45s and how fast those 45s multiply on that bar brother!!!! its a beutiful thing
 
The kind of effect that squats do to your legs, no other exercise even comes close. I remmeber the first time I began doing squats. 95 lbs for 10 reps, barely to paralle. My legs were in excruciating pain, they were shaking, and I had a pumped up feeling whole week. They are a very tough exercise.
 
For me, my squat improves faster than any other excercise. When I first started, I added about 40 pounds to the bar each week! Beginners will make great gains!
 
i did real squats for the first time last week, and nothing carries over to them. i can do hack squats with 365, and i had to do 185 on real squats for 5x5. but man did it feel good.

I always had huge legs w/o doing much leg work (good genetics I guess) :p

when I started doing squats on a 5x5, I kept reading 'go parallel'.. I was pushing close to 260 but only going 3/4 parallel.. I order for me to go parallel I had to drop to 185. let me tell ya - it makes a world of difference.. my legs are growing fast.. you know how those jeans suddenly feel tight in the leg area? awwee yeah. Keep up the good work!!

Thanks, my legs are killing me today :). Did a good 5x5 chest workout today, so hopefully tomorrow my chest will be killing me...
