fat in low carb bars

i was wondering the deal with the fat in low carb bars. i eat very low carbs(about 100 a day) and keep my fat intake to a minimal. some of these bars have alot of fat and a good deal of sat. fat. i was wondering how bad these things are for a guy like me who eats to stay really lean, but those things are great for protein on the go.

if youer body is not consuming much carbs, then yes, you need fat, otherwise your body will start using your muscle as energy..

Theres 3 options.

Low Carb/High Fat
High Carb/Low Fat
High Carb/High Fat

The latter puts you at risk for heart disease and makes you gain weight. The problem for many people with a high carb/fat diet is that their bodies can't burn the carbs, and in turn it gets stored as fat along with the fat you've already consumed.

Low carb/High Fat works for a lot of people, it sure does with me. It doesn't mean that you should indulge yourself, but you can still eat plenty and loose weight. There is no reason that i can think of that you'd be hurting yourself by eating one of these bars. I doubt you'd loose much weight (from how it sounds). My favorite are carb solutions for 3 reasons.

1) Low in carbs
2) Contains 60% of a TON of vitamins and minerals
3) Tastes really good for a health bar.

Some of those bars are really loaded with hydrogenated fats. Watch out for the saturated fat levels. It might be okay for weight loss, but not great for cholesterol.

A filling option could also be a protein drink with flax oil in. The fat found in that is actuallt heart healthy.

yea bro,
if you're on a low carb diet, dont worry so much about your fat intake. you need fat to burn fat. I think that the low carb revolution bars made by worldwide have only 2-3gms of carbs, 22gms of protein, and 8gms of fat (7gms are unsaturated) from sunflower or canola oil i think? but anyway, they taste pretty good and are reasonably priced. I think those would be a really good choice for ya. good luck

Just don't forget that if you aren't burning carbs or fat, then your burning muscle.

The only time your really looking at a lot of fat being converted to cholesterol is when your eating a lot of carbs AND a lot of fat. Shoot, my cholesteral and blood pressure levels have increased a TON since i started atkins.

100g carbs a day is high-not low

Well, most Americans consume 300-400 grams of carbs a day, easy. Shoot, you get 100 just from a gatorade and a few soft drinks. If Americans only ate 100 grams of carbs a day, we'd have a thinner nation.

100 is not low, but it sounds okay for a grown man who exercises regularly or is just active.

100 is about right for anyone under 13 who needs to lose fat.

It's NOT low enough to lose fat, not low enough to put you into ketosis, certainly not low enough to cut.

Depends on what you're trying to achieve.

Lecithin is good for protection against saturated fats.
