insulin levels are lowest in the morning in a fasted state and glucagon will be high along with cortisol after waking.
The reason for taking BCAA's upon waking is so that your body can take that as energy instead of from your muscles - effectively stopping gluconeogenesis. Keep your heart rate at .60 - .75 of max heart rate (find your max heart rate by 220-age... times that number by .6 and .75 for your heart rate range.) The point is to not be so winded you cant have a decent conversation.
For those doing HIIT on an empty stomach, your body will zap your muscles for glucose thru Amino acids.
