^^^ a nice and steady 50 minute jog on a scenic trail blows away a treadmill at the gym anyday.
but if you are forced to workout in a gym a fast paced walk or slow jog is fine. just avoid the elliptical which is the biggest waste of time, i wrote a thread in the endurance forum detailing why.
